Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows what type of Capacitor this is please, and if so, are they any good and what reading are they ? Never seen one like this and this big in a bass before. I am customizing and restoring a Cimar Bass similar to the Gibson Grabber and this is out of it.

Well it's a 0.1uF capacitor, but I'm not sure exactly what type it is. It looks a bit Russian to me. It's not going to matter massively what type it is for you, as you keep the tone control fully up. But if you ever used it, the large capacitance value means that it's going to go muddy very quickly. As I know you like bright tones, I'd keep it safe somewhere, but replace it with a smaller value capacitor, maybe 0.033uF or 0.022uF. The smaller the value, the brighter the tone.

Looks like this: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/10x-0-1uF-200V-5-Russian-PIO-Capacitors-KBG-i/202145758670?hash=item2f10d37dce:g:NngAAOSw14xWJkL b

Only thing is the number at the bottom - not sure what that is...
0783 vs 8910.

Possibly a batch number.

Some hot sleuthing there, Brendan!

It's unlikely they'd have been fitted to a Japanese copy as original equipment, so probably a later addition.

Thank you Simon. Much appreciated for your info and help. I noticed a big difference between 0 and 10. Whereas i have a .001 cap and there isnt much difference between 0 and 10, but a very bright tone.

The finished customization product. Quite happy with the color turnout. Sounds and plays much better that i expected in both bridge and neck pick up positions.
