I think I may have got confused with the wiring ideas I had for my current JZA build. What I have planned is this: https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/22967-mod-garage-the-bill-lawrence-5-way-telecaster-circuit

Yep, it’s for a tele, but I’m hoping it will work with the P90s.

Now I’ve also made a hole at the top for a toggle switch - the Gibson 3-way style one I bought like this one:

I originally thought I would add a blower switch (http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/the-tone-garage/guitar-wiring-explored-adding-a-blower-switch) but of course I’ve now realised that’s a DPDT on/on switch.

I figure I have a couple of options.

1. Just buy a DPDT on/on switch
2. Use the switch I have, but somehow wire it so it does something similar
3. Use the existing switch I have but do something entirely different.

I’m not wedded to any of the toggle ideas – I’d just like to try something different. It probably goes without saying that I’m not great with this stuff so any help/suggestions would certainly be welcomed!

There are a few things you could do with a switchcraft style 3-way (a tone switch (http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3457&d=1433707590) or maybe a cap selector (http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3458&d=1433707673)), and using it for some tricky ground switching could add other options. However, you really need a DPDT if you want to do a blower so you can switch both the 'in' and 'out' on the circuit.

That is fantastic - thanks so much Scott. I love the idea of those tone/cap selectors. Hugely appreciated!

With the ground switching variation you should be able to set it up so the tone control has two cap options or is disconnected completely. That still wouldn't give you a blower, but at the very least the 'pure' volume only sound that some people like.

You could also try setting up the switch to do a output short on the volume and then a ground lift. 1st pos would give normal volume control, middle pos would short the volume input to output (some increase in vol depending on it's current setting), and then 3rd pos would short the in-out and drop the ground link which should give max volume regardless of setting (alcohol induced spitballing, so don't take it as gospel).
