View Full Version : PBG Nut Files

Adam, any chance that PBG could source some decent affordable nut files and sell them on the site?

Most of the good sets seem to be Japanese and cost in the £100-£130/Aus$160-$213 region for a set of 8 or 9 files. And getting the nut slots just right is a big part of setting your guitar up so that it's playable and in-tune. That's a lot of money for someone to spend when they've just bought a kit for a similar amount. Removing and sanding the bottom of the nut can be done, but it's not really the optimal way to do it. Unlike other tools, these aren't items readily available elsewhere apart from at Luthier shops, and they all seem to sell the same expensive sets.

Thanks.

Great idea Simon. I've been scouring the web for months and unfortunately can't find anything within my budget.
It would be the ultimate upgrade after the second kit or even with the first if you know you are going to do a few.

A while back I bought a set of these.

Now for $3.67 including postage, you can guess the quality. However, if I am honest, I bought them for cleaning up two nuts and they did the job. (One bone, one plastic).

If I was doing this all the time, would they be useful? Probably not.

For occasional use and one off's? Sure, good enough.

And with a "wholesale price" like that, make them a $10 option to add to a kit at purchase time.

Thanks @Rabbitz I will give them a go.

The exact same item (including the colour) is available at the Big Green Shed.
'Weldcorp' welding tip cleaners.
Can't remember exactly but a tad more than $3.50

cheers, Mark.

We must be in sync with the zeitgeist... DB, Brendan, Nickosaurus and I are assessing some tools right now and hopefully will have some Kits and separate tools available in late August. From what we have already seen they do look pretty reasonable quality... with Chinese pricing.

very cool Ads if you start selling some specialised tools. It will be a one stop shop then !
