View Full Version : binding paint/scrape fail

I made a holy mess out of scraping my binding. In the end I just sanded all the edges down to get ready to repaint pretty much anywhere there is binding, and that leads me to the problem I am asking about today.

I had originally tried to stain. But I had damaged the top sanding, so I taped up binding so that I could paint. I had not cleaned up the binding particularly well, figuring I could cleanup wayward stain and paint once the paint was on and I started scraping the binding. The videos make it look SO easy....

Long story short, I painted, I scraped, I screwed it up to a fair-the-well. I sanded down all the edges to the wood.

So, now I have the edges down, but in sanding paint down around the binding the sandpaper left traces of paint embedded in the binding. Any thoughts on the best way to clean that up. I have been using gray Scotchbrite (~800 grit). This more or less works, but takes a lot of elbow grease. Is there a better way?

Thanks!

Rich

1200 grit wet & dry paper used wet should do the trick.
