Well, it could have a black scratchplate! ;)

Looks very nice.

I see it has the standard Explorer selector switch location, compared to the EX kits. It also has a 24-fret neck compared to the 22 fret one in the kits. So does that mean that this configuration would be available in kit form as well?

Hey Simon, yep, you can custom order this as a kit. Won't affect the price of the EX-1 or EXM-1 (Mahogany) kit.

While I have your attention... are you up to having a look at an ES-1G kit build a customer in the UK has messed up? They're in Coventry.

Waiting to hear back from them, but it looks like they set the neck at the wrong angle.

It's quite a way from me - a 150km two hour drive or more depending on the traffic - so not too keen to do an in-person visit and I haven't got any friends there to combine a visit with. But I'm happy to give advice via PMs or email as there's no time zone delay to worry about.

Hey Adam, good looking Explorer with the added bonus of 24 frets plus traditional switch & scratch plate configuration. Also looks better than original in those shots as most of them have visible timber line joints showing through their solid black finish.

You could chrome the whole guitar and then stand in a black room.

..... On reflection....

I owned one that was refinished in black and had a glass, yes real glass mirror cut in the shape of the main triangular bit and trimmed off the part that goes up between the PUP's. Looked awesome under lights on stage and had tons of fun aiming the reflection into the crowd.
