Hi guys,
I'm applying the dingotone clear coat on the body of my TLA-1. To cut and polish my guitar, should I wet sending it and then use a compound like the McGuaire's one or dingotone is to delicate to wet sanding it? How many clear coat should I apply to be safe to do the wet sanding?
Thanks.

Hi Ganna, I'd put at leasty 4 thinish coats of final coat on, I've found for polishing it I got a set of micro mesh pads 1500 - 10000 grit coat maybe $25 on ebay. They polish it really nicely to 10000 grit then go over with Meguairs polish after that.
Wet sand you will risk sanding through.
DB usually recommends 3-4 final coats, I go for 4 or 5 for bit more protection
Give each coat at least 3 days curing

Good luck

Oh, I see. Do I still need to sand the surface of the guitar with the micro mesh until it looks dull before using the compound or just lightly smooth the surface?

Hi Ganna,

as you go up the grades of micro mesh you will find that it has a polishing effect of sorts.

Whilst it is wet it will feel like glass and by running your fingertips lightly across the surface between each micro mesh pad you will feel any parts that need a bit more work.

Once you get to 12,000 grade grit it looks pretty shiny, not dull or satin at all, and ready for the car polish to bring it home.

Excuse my ignorance, the micro mesh has to be wet?

Being that ultra fine it won't work any other way. Best to use all wet & dry papers wet as that helps to clear the muck and not block up the grits, even from as coarse as 600 and upwards otherwise you risk a build up of shiny bits that can then scratch the surface you are trying to finish.
