I've wanted a jag for a good long while now and I'd looks at everything from the 50th anniversary reissues through MIJ Fenders and the Squires.

The other week a second hand one popped up on eBay really cheap so I put a bid on it not expecting to win... and then a week later it was on my doorstep haha.

first impressions.... WOW! totally blown away.

The neck feels great and unexpectedly has some very pronounced flaming going on in the maple. The fit and finish of everything is really good to, its a second hand guitar but there wasn't a finger print, scratch, chip, ding or blemish on any part of it.. weird.
The previous owner had upgraded the std bridge to a mustang one as well, bonus!

then the sounds... my god the sounds, super clear, quality noise.

Being that it was going to be a little bit of a project after playing it for a week I started pulling it apart and noticed some unexpected things, namely the pickups... they are a really good quality build. I was expecting steel poles and a fat fridge magnet but they are all individual magnets with what appears to be proper copper wire...win!

So the plan is to refinish the body and do matching headstock but I cant find a replacement Squier Jaguar decal so far.

Currently tossing up between Burgundy mist, or Shoreline gold with a pearloid guard.

good score Mick !

what is the current colour ?

string action looks a bit high but maybe that's the angle of the photo

maybe you need to print the logo on decal paper and make one up as close as possible

EDIT what is NGD ? need guitar daily ? haha

would be nice if you could please post a full pic of the axe in colour !

Currently Candy Apple Red (as per the first pic) action is super low, its been set up really well.

nice one Mick, so if the finish is spotless why would you re-finish the candy apple red ?

Out of every possible colour the red is my least favourite, it needs to be a little more chilled and classy.... plus i have a soft spot for matching headstock jags :)

Are you going for a solid colour refinish? From experience you'll never know what's lurking underneath...

Man, what a shame you hate Candy Apple Red as I personally think it is one of the better Fender colours that they do.

Totally understand if it was plain old Fiesta Red or something like that and agree with Ponch in that often there is a reason why they go with a solid colour as there may be an unpleasant surprise about to emerge.

I also can't stand candy apple red. Bad memories of my first (awful) guitar. I have been surprised by the quality of the Squiers getting around recently. My experience with them in the 90s was not great, but I got to play a 'Classic Vibe' series telecaster a while ago and wow! It played and sounded better than my brother in law's mexi tele and the flamed neck was unbelievable for a 'budget' guitar.

Nice score, Mick.

A Squier CV Mahogany Thinline is now around the $1K mark here in Oz and the Ash around $800 so not all that cheap.

I've got a Mahogany one and it's great but I go plan a pickup upgrade to open it up a little

A thousand dollars for a Squier?!?! Whoa, it would want to be good then. I had no idea.

A thousand dollars for a Squier?!?! Whoa, it would want to be good then. I had no idea.

One of our local music store had the cheapest street price I could find in Oz a few years back and it was $580 in a gig bag, I got mine in Kuta for $500 in a hard case. ( Wira's Music )

When I looked at the local store site a couple of months ago the Mahogany one was just shy of a gorilla and now they don't even list it just the Ash one.

At the time I was looking for a CV Custom, double bound, sunburst, rosewood board that looked close to a twin of the 59 tele I once owned.

In the shop in Kuta they only had an Avril Lavigne and the Thinline and once I had played it there was no doubt it was going to be coming home with me.

I went to the same shop again in early 2015 and they had a much better range but still no CV Custom, I hope I don't see one in Hawaii this month or I'll really be in big trouble

Finally got around to re-finishing this beast, I used Duplicolor auto paint, first time using it and if this experience was anything to go buy it'll be all I ever use from now on. It stuck like glue to the slightly roughed up original finish and cured rock hard, I never even ended up clearing it .... just cut and polish.

We had some brutal weather over the weekend so the 100watt amp got turned up to 10 and the jag got a serious workout.

beyond happy with this!!!!!!

Yes agree, top refinish and a much less garish than the original colour.

As nice as this felt to play, it was missing 'something'

Turns out what it was missing was a set of Seymour Duncan Vintage Jaguar pickups! and a new pickguard.... because we all know that the better it looks the better it sounds ;)

It's a lot more well rounded sounding now, very 'classic' still bright with some of that Fender plink but no where near as harsh and trebbly as the stockies.... happy days!
