William Holten, 15 years old in Oslo, Norway.

Norway is hardly the most fertile ground for country music, here are a few of his originals which I must say show feel and maturity way beyond his years, not to mention his technique.

Quite possibly Woks :D

I do like clean guitar sounds and as someone moving over from bass the amount of effort it takes to get bent double & triple stops to work properly.

A potted history of what I have played over the years in progressive steps since 1964
Shadows / Ventures instrumental
Beatles / Stones
Hendrix / Cream
Sabbath / Deep Purple
King Crimson and similar prog stuff
Symphonic rock - Gentle Giant / Yes
______________________
1973
Country - Cash / Owens / Haggard
Country & Rock - Eagles / Haggard + every thing from Bill Haley to Grand Funk Railroad
Country & Rock - Eagles / Pure Prairie League / Ozark Mountain Daredevils + 56 style rock & Beach Boys

From 64 - 73 I was lucky to do a paying show per month but did do a bit of session work 1970 - 72
From 1973 - 81 with the switch to country played paying gigs on average of 5 nights a week and often more.

Where has the live music scene gone to in Sydney

Good stuff. Talented player. I wonder how a 15 year old from Norway picked up a liking for country?

And the music scene in Sydney... the tumble-weed started to blow through this place about 15 years ago.... 'urban renewal', sound restrictions etc..... so many band venues have shut up shop.

I remember having a regular gig at Leonay Bowling Club and they installed a sound meter that cut the power to the stage if it spent more than a few seconds in the red, after the sound was cut a couple of times we turned down to a very low level and sang without mics which made the punters very unhappy.

The mic was directly above the bar and when we pointed out to the crowd during a break that the folks ordering drinks was driving the lights into the red they had a piece of the management.

After that we always took a bunch of extension leads so we could get our power from off stage which made the crowd happy but pi55ed the management off, we never went back. 400 - 500 was an average crowd at that club so a lot of beer was drunk and pokies played, I think the crowds dropped back to around 30 - 40 on a Saturday night after we left

Do a YT search of Norwegian country music you will get a huge surprise, most of it is very derivative but not all.

Like these guys Steve N Seagulls ( Finland in this case )

I remember Mike Whitney saying on a certain show on TV one night that a banjo solo is like an org4asm, you know it's coming but there's nothing you can do about it :D
