It's a new classic. And.... you would be the ONLY people out there with a kit for one!!!

Cha-ching!

Sundragon - gotta agree with you - a 5 string jazz would be nice - that said - there's already a couple of 5 string options - lets see if there is any more love for them...

The only 5 string bass options that I can find are an Explorer (no chance) or an Ibanez (ho hum).

If you're not selling 5 string basses, the selection on offer probably has a lot to do with it.

Personally, I'd like to see a 5 string Stingray kit. I'd snap one up - preferably single Humbucker. (should this last line go into it's own thread?)

5 string J Bass would be cool.

Only bought the EX-5 as I love the shape and as a bonus it came with 5 strings however I still would have been happy with 4.

About 18 - 24 months ago I was lusting after the Ibanez spalted 5 string that is now only available as a 6 which made it a deal breaker.

Agree that 5 String Stingray would be the better option and while we are at it can we add a spalted top for extra cost to any kit?

Pretty much the only 5 string design I like.

Which one? There's been 5 mentioned in this thread.

You don't like the Stingray 5's?

Not really. Don't know why, but most 5 strings look out of proportion to me.

Hey guys, I'm keeping an eye on this, there is definitely room for a more traditional 5 string. If you can come to some consensus I am sure they can do any one of the models you have mentioned (no I can't order all of them, we just don't have the room... or the capital). Might as well make it special... what wood? fretboard? Any veneer or other bling?

Make that P ash with a maple board.......

Fenders are everywhere. Go Stingray.

Single humbucker. If someone wants 2 humbuckers they can route the extra cavity. Not possible to go the other way.

Woods? I'm easy.

My reasoning for the Jazz Bass 5 string (other than the obvious personal taste part) is because you simply can't get them ANYWHERE unless it's Fender.....and for $2500
From a business and marketing perspective, the high level of interest and lack of market alternatives (that are not boutique luthiers selling for similar or greater prices than Fender), is screaming for attention.

There's heaps of 4 string every style, and lots of the more modern (IB etc) 5 and even 6 string styles about, why not the old sexy Jazz with a low B.

Make them Ash, with Maple and rosewood board options and there's no going back!

For supporting evidence of possible market potential, I present the following:

Hi Sundragon, you could start a forum poll to see who is interested in a 5 string Jazz bass. If you get 5 or more people keen then Ads may be able to place an order.
Otherwise send Ads and email for a cost of a custom 5 string JB.
Looking at your graph Ibanez are the most popular shape.
Really all you need is a JB-4 body with wider pups/cavities, wider neck, 5 string bridge and an extra tuner and B string.
Are the big F ones a 4 + 1 tuner configuration ?

Yeah Wokka, "Really all you need is a JB-4 body with wider pups/cavities, wider neck, 5 string bridge and an extra tuner and B string." is pretty much it.

And yes, 4+1 is the way.

I'm not desperately after one myself, so maybe don't misunderstand my ernest for hassling. I really do think that it's just a big gap in the market that PBG may really benefit from filling.

That's funny. They're becoming the 'norm' for me. I look at a 4 string now and it looks... 'incomplete'.

It's a new classic.

What is the difference between what you are suggesting and a JB-5M/R?
