Wow! What a cool looking loot-like axe project. Are they a kit option for somewhere or are you doing a scratchie?

Yes this is what I thought when I saw it, it will have to be a scratch build, my first.

Looks very much like my Maton L202 that I am going to restore

good luck Neil, what's the back of the body look like presume it's all curved.

No this one is flat backed, but I like the curved idea, more lute like.

flat back will be much easier to build from scratch Neil

Yes it will, I need to make a body template first. My hope was to round the back edge more than this one, but I will see.

Wow, there's another one to look at for reference. I hadn't seen many teardrops before, now I've seen lots of them, different brands and all.

Bloody hell! How many knobs are on that thing?

The Maton L202 ( unbutchered and not mine )

And my L202, butchered when I thought pointy things with humbuckers and cigarette paper high frets were cool

These are a chambered guitar with the F holes painted on and very small, so will resurrect in something like original for my grandkids

nice one DK, painted on F holes are much easier than real ones haha
Can't work out the tuner holes on the headstock, is it an 8 string ?

Gday Wok,

The pearloid tip came off the E1 tuner and I got sick of tuning it with a pair of pliers and had a set of 3 a side Schaller tuners in a box, so with a touch of possibly enhanced thinking :) a hacksaw a pistol drill and a blue and white apron it became a pointy headstock which made the HBs mandatory ( it was around 1973 )

dave.king1 would you be able to send me some data on your Matron please?

body dimensions, and scale length if possible please.

I don't have one at hand to check.

Gday Neil,

I'll measure it up over the weekend and post here, but also bear in mind I'm just up the road from you at Loftus if you want a close look at it

Gday Neil,

The weekend turned to sheite so it didn't leave the case but I should have an opportunity over the next couple of days to run a tape over it

G'day Neil,

All OK it was just the family kept making demands of my time ( as they do )

Finally ran a tape over the L202 and here's the results.

Neck has 22 frets and is 4 bolt, no idea of the fret size and neither did Maton but from memory were similar to to the PB ST frets, trussrod nut is as the body end of the neck.

The neck thickness is a bit thinner than my Squier CV Tele Thinline I can run a caliper over it if you wish.
Scale - 592mm
Width @ nut - 42mm
Width @ 12th - 53mm
Width @ 22nd - 58mm
Body thickness - 40mm
Body width - 329mm
Body length - 426.5mm

nice one DK, gee that scale is short - works out only 23.3 inches !

Rest of the dimensions look pretty standard

Crusader

Excellent, thanks heaps for that.

I'm doing 24.75" scale

And now I can check my body dimensions for the template.

Thanks again.
Neil

Awesome, my template printed out was only out by about 6 mm.
Not a bad attempt for my first go.
