Hi guys,
I'm new here (just posted the "I'm new post" in the right area), and I'm looking at building an STA1 with a deep blue (royal blue) stained finish.
I've looked at the Dingotone Bondi Blue but all guitars I see with this finish seem to have more a 'blue jeans' look than 'royal blue'. Is that just a matter of adding more coats to change density?
Cheers!
Fred

Hi Fred,
you should be able to get a deeper blue on the ash grain. You could ask Dingobass to mix a deeper blue colour in the Bondi Blue kit and with more coats should deepen the blue stain.
Gav Turner on the forum used colortone dyes and got a nice deep blue STA-1 finish, see if you can find the build diary. It was GOTM about 6-9 months ago (guitar of the month). It is shown in the gallery section here check it out, scroll down bottom of page

No problems with spiking a Bondi kit to make it deeper.
Flick me an email and I can sort it out.

Great.
Is there any way to get a good level of gloss with Dingotone?
I really like the gloss Gav achieved on his, it looks amazing on the deep blue.
I found his build diary and he used acrylic but it isn't too natural...
Cheers!

TBH, you will only get a semi gloss with DT.

Thanks Dingobass.
I'm now thinking I'll keep Dingotone for my second project (if the first one doesn't stop me!)...

Fred if you want a high gloss you really need to use a naughty product such as tru oil, wipe on poly, acrylic, polyurethane or nitro.

That's what I'm starting to think...
Feel bad talking about naughty products for a first Pitbull Guitar kit!

I'mgoing to start another thread in the Finishing part of the forum to talk about options for gloss...

Light Orange Dingo Tone
Was mixing up a few brews this afternoon and came up with a light orange colour as shown below. Not exactly what I expected and was achieved by mixing 1 part Outback Sunset to 3 parts Coolangatta Gold if anyone is interested.

I love it when folk experiment :)

Might look at releasing this as a new colour...
Now all we need is an Aussie name for it.

Hit me with suggestions folk!

Thanks Pablo. Here are a couple of outdoor shots taken today after applying 2nd base stain coat. Just wondering what to do when applying intensifier? Does it make the base coat go darker or just provide a more even looking depth & lustre? May need to factor all this into the equation when mixing up the intensifier brew and keen for expert feedback and opinions on this.

+1 for the Gayndah Glow... Figure that if the colour came out of Qld, then the name should...
