Hey all,
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, feel free to move it.

I'm a novice building a guitar from scratch for the first time. I'm copying the Marceline Axe from the adventure time cartoon using a CNC router. (Welcome post is here http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=4034

Basically all I have at this stage is the wood and a CNC program. Once I've machined it I need all the parts to go on it. (Pick ups, strings, frets, etc)

If I buy the parts from this kit, can I just "stick it on" my guitar or does it get more complicated than that? The only issue that comes to mind might be the position of the tuning peg holes being the wrong distance from the edge?

Appreciate any assistance

Bryan

G'day Bryan,

Not sure where in Sydney you are, I'm near Sutherland and have a set of kit PBH-4 pups and a full set of standard kit white & chrome Strat fittings and pups that are surplus to requirements.

You are welcome to any of these bits that you can use, they will only sit on the shelf here.

Oh wow thanks! I'm actually in Miranda so very close. I may indeed hit you up when I get to that stage.

Is it just a matter of fitting the parts though? Or is there something more technical about it?

Tuner holes is a relatively simple process. If you want this to be a functional instrument your biggest issue will be the neck. All steel string guitars and basses have a trussrod that runs the length of the neck, under the fingerboard which adds rigidity to the neck and allows for neck adjustment.
Without this your guitar will be unplayable.

Just let me know what & when

Hi Bryan, so this is going to be a 4 string bass ? Might pay to build a bass kit before attempting a scratch build. Or think about ordering a bass neck. There is alot to learn about building a scratch neck and some specialised tools are required.
Also a bass truss rod will be longer and more rigid than a guitar truss rod.
Will the neck be fretted or a fretless ?
You will need to route the neck pocket to suit the neck heel profile/shape

Scale length is very important. If you don't know what that is, you might need to do some research. Or, ask around here. We're all guitar tragics and will be happy to help. Awesome project!

As mentioned, I would highly reccomend you build a kit first..
This will give you more knowledge in your armoury before attempting a scratch build..

As for necks, well, there are a few tricky bits there.. Probably best to but one first time round :)

Here is a link to a thread showing my process for building a bolt on neck.
The principle is the same for both Bass Ns Guitar :)

Anything to do with Adventure Time can't possibly be a bad thing!
