Here is my entry in the months competition, my Sonoro Junior Supreme.
It is the JR-1DC with a few mods. They are Gotoh locking tuners, Bare Knuckles "Supermassive" P90 PUP, Graphtech Resomax Wraparound bridge and a custom "Cocked Wah" wiring harness with Mojo Dijon caps (22uf &47uf), switchable by a push/pull volume pot. Stained with Wudtone Carmine Gypsy on the back and a combination of Carmine Gypsy and Hot Auburn on the front. Finished with 6 coats of Tru-Oil on the neck, and a combination of Tru-Oil and Feast Watson Wipe-On Poly on the Body (about 10 coats I think).

I will post a link to a facebook video of my son Patrick playing along with "If You Want Blood" by AC/DC. Enjoy!

Here is my entry to the guitar of the month. It is the iceman kit.The upgrades include Gotoh locking tuners,An Earvana nut (not sure it was worth the $40,and Kent Armstrong pickups. As with all my guitars I replace the bridge with a roller unit. The tone pots are pots which I've modified into No-load Pots usinf youtube videos. The last Tru-oil I bought came as a set wth some walnut stain and Conditioner so I used the stain and the Tru-oil on the neck. With the white body it reminds me of a marzipan wedding cake.
The body I decided to do a variation of the cracked mirror Paul Stanley Iceman. As I cut intricate glass shapes every day it was no problem cutting the mirror.I drew the guitar top to scale, worked out the design, allowing islands of timber where the pickup ring screws go and around the bridge post holes.I photo copied the desigh and cut out the paper templates of the mirror pieces.I chiselled out recesses for all the mirror and got the guys who spray polyurethne kitchen doors to spray the body white.I then inlaid all the mirror, and used No-more gaps to fill inbetween the glass pieces. All the glass has been edge ground so despite the faux blood, you can't cut yourself.I love Dexter and his blood splatter posters. Also it is 5 years since I slashed by artery in my wrist so using Dexter's posters and my memory,I mixed some Clear Red and Rust Brown Tamiya paint to make the faux-blood which I splattered judiciously over the guitar.Abalone topped chrome knobs finished the build.
The electrics were a nightmare on this guitar .When I tested it the Tone knobs were not working, the volumes only worked from about 85% on.I pulled every thing apart and wired each pickup to an output jack and tones seperately. They worked fine, but when I hooked everything back up to the switch, the same problem as before.I knew the switch was to blame.I used wire-braided vintage cable on the switch to jack.As I always use conductive paint to shield all cavities,it seems that somewhere the braid was causing a short. After I changed the braid out for regular insulated cable everything worked out fine.

How does it sound and play ?

It plays great. The Kent Armstrong pickups are very powerful.I can't really decide if using no-load tone pots makes that much of a difference. But unless you are an experienced glass cutter,I highly recommend using mirror perspex instead, otherwise the blood spatter will be very real.I cut glass every day for nearly 20 years and I don't consider my day to start until the claret flows.Glass is supersharp, the cuts don't usually hurt, but the blood gets everywhere.

I appreciate all the comments and compliments.I have plenty of other guitars to show but I just can't get my photos to upload.I think the neck of this kit is one of the best I've used.Maybe one could specify which neck one likes with what body? The neck being preshaped helped speed up what was a very long and intricate build.I don't think I'll be doing something that complicated ,finish-wise again.

Hi Chaps,

Here's my Gr1-SF. Colortone blue with clear Dingotone over the top. A few extra bits and pieces;

Grover sta-tight tuners

One of DB's famous nuts (That could be taken out of context)

GFS Xtrem tremolo (bit nicer than the stock one, bit cheaper than a Bigsby)

I've wired it up using the Gretsch 'mud-switch' circuit.

I have a Gotoh Nashville bridge to go on, just waiting on some files to come in the mail so I can file the saddles.

I had planned on putting some Filtertrons or P90s in it, just putting the stockies in until I could get some cash together, but it sounds really good as is, so I might leave it. Very raunchy, does some good QOTSA/White Stripes sounds. In any case I'll have to get over my hollowbody-wiring induced PTSD before I even think about putting different pickups in.

Hi this is my IB5 which I completed today. I used ordered wooden knobs and added a finger ramp but otherwise pretty much from the original kit. I tried to make the body as if it had a coloured top, and also used glitter to do a little art on the body.

Hi, finished my LP and thought I would enter into the GOTM, hope you like it, I am very happy with the result seeing though it was my first kit.
Standard wiring, fully shielded and gold hardware upgrade from PBG with a custom rosewood truss Todd cover and some i-Ching lucky coins as machine head washers. The timber top is too nice to cover with a pick guard so leaving it off. My mate is a spray painter in a hot rod shop and he guided me through the 15 plus coats of clear lacquer and hours of sanding, polishing and finishing using 3 levels of high tech polishing compounds...the result is stunning, specially in good light, thanks Scotty! Not much light when the pics were taken, hope it shows up ok.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering entering this month but just for fun. This was another beta test for Dingotone butterscotch top & headstock and nullarbor ochre back/sides.
This was a fun build and a bit easier with the bolt on and these paulownia bodies are amazingly light, I reckon the body pretty well weighs as much as the neck, so anyone with a bad back this axe you will be able to play much easier for couple of hours.
Only mods were bone nut and truss rod cover. Now I got to find time to play the neck in !

This entry from Dr Jay, who had some issues posting the pics.

"My build is an FB kit. I substituted in DeVille Humbuckers from CB Gitty. The headstock decoration is from a cigar box and the switch housing is antique copper from a Flea market we attend. The red is a water based dye from a Wisconsin company. The gold Speed Knobs I got from Amazon. My daughter painted a message on the back. It plays very well and I am getting sounds out I was not getting on other instruments. Played through a Tube dDouble Twin I made at Chicago School of Guitar Making with some distortion with a Boss Metal Zone distortion pedal. It's awesome! Thanks for the kit and peace!"

Excellent work to all the entries and well deserved winner, although it could not have been easy to pick.

Till next time ... :)
