Got a very interesting email from wokka today...

Fender have announced a new Telecaster today, only 10 in Australia! This Telecaster is very damn sexy, dual humbuckers, Gibson style block inlays, olympic white finish and a nice Strat style hardtail bridge.

I'll repeat it again, only TEN guitars being sold in Australia, so if you want one, please consult your nearest Minister for War and Finance for the money...

What is the price tag?
$3,299RRP...

I will try to get down to Sky Music on Saturday and see if they have it and I might throw up a demo clip of this wonderful guitar.

good one Pest posting this, should raise some interest from the Tele napper !
Would be nice if the factory could do a F type paddle neck with block inlays. I'd love to build something like that

Really scratching my head over the price tag on that guitar. What makes it so goddang expensive? As far as I can tell, the block inlays seem to account for 20% of the cost. Hmmm.

wokkaboy
05-05-2015, 11:42 AM
yeah Pabs I agree, you pay about $2k for the Fender logo on the headstock

keloooe

Limited edition Pabs, only 10 in Oz, if it were a full production model it wouldn't be that much more than a standard Tele.

'Limited Edition' is such a scam. These spec out identically to a standard american HH tele apart from the blocks and are $700 more expensive. For the extra minute (probably less) the neck spent on the CNC. Wow, as Wokka said, $2k for the logo. I think that's understating it somewhat.

keloooe

Yeah that is true, I'd just get a standard HH Tele, or even a Squire!

Once again, Fender are treating people with contempt.

The whole limited editon thing is such a scam, but she does look like a nice guitar. Might have to build one with this set up!

Yeah true Stan!

Epiphone and Squire are getting better with their guitars recently!

I've got a 2010 Squier CV Thinline and it was excellent straight out of the box so I don't see the value in the name unless one happens to be a badge snob, which of course none of us are because that's why we are here.

so true Dave, the Chinese and Koreans make just about everyones guitars nowdays. The Indonesians and Mexicans make the rest.
I am betting that lots of these factories make several brands under the one roof...

wokkaboy
06-05-2015, 02:41 PM
sure you are correct Stan about some factories manufacturing several brands of axes.
You will have Overlord brothers soon Stan, not long for Gav T and Pest to join the club !

Well, there is World Musical Instruments in Korea. I think they used to go by Samick. Off the top of my head they do PRS SE, Dean, Eastwood, LTD, Washburn, Chapman and they're doing the Ormsby GTR line.

World Musical do a great job with the axes they churn out, especially the Chapmans!

stan
06-05-2015, 06:06 PM
agreed Pest, those Chapmans are nice.

Yeah Wokks, bring them on!!
Who will be the next GAStronomist though...

keloooe
06-05-2015, 06:37 PM
At the rate that I am posting, could be me haha!

wokkaboy
06-05-2015, 07:39 PM
well Stan is almost halfway there.
Pest at your current rate I worked out you would be a GAStronomist about December 2018 !!

Bloody hell - I had no idea that Perry had delegated the GTR line to Korea. I never thought he'd make a line that wasn't Australian made

stan
07-05-2015, 06:18 AM
probably an income stream thing - get volume guitars made overseas: it puts a product out there in volume so he can pay the bills, and so frees him up for customs builds

keloooe
07-05-2015, 06:21 AM
Yeah and play any of the guitars they build and you know why he went with them.

pablopepper

Quote from the man himself.

"To spend the time required, and use the absolute best timbers available, my custom hand made guitars do end up being out of reach of most musicians. This is something that always worried me. I didn’t want to just be helping people who were lucky enough to be financially well off. My dream was to have a line of guitars that were more affordable, but still had the Ormsby quality control, and innovations like Multiscale fretboards, and my favourite pickup winds.
However, it wasn’t just a case of finding a cheap Asian manufacturer and contracting them to go forth and build. It was planned over a number of years, then 18 months of talks and discussions with the team, and now finally releasing the guitars. There was only one company I was willing to work with, and if they said no, there was no way the entire project would have been started."

keloooe
07-05-2015, 07:42 AM
Yeah I have always looked at an Ormsby then looked at the price tag.....

dingobass
07-05-2015, 07:42 AM
Perry has integrity, and believe me if any of this line dont match his extremely anally retentive standards of quality he will sack them on the spot!
I wish him well in this endeavor.

stan
07-05-2015, 02:03 PM
maybe Adam can get parts off the Koreans and we could have an OR1 kit....

keloooe
07-05-2015, 08:22 PM
Possibly Stan! Bug him and see if he can do it!

pablopepper
08-05-2015, 05:50 AM
Hahaha, no.

keloooe
08-05-2015, 06:01 AM
Yeah on second thought an Ormsby would be incredibly difficult!

Very true! Anyone who could pull it off, especially early on in their luthierie career is gifted!
