Hey lads,

I'm building a breaker box for a prototyping breadboard and I just had a quick question about a component.

The schem I'm using asks for a b10k pot to sag the voltage for fun fuzz sounds but I can only find ones with these straight lugs.

I assume that these require some sort of sleeve connection but I'm not sure. I'd prefer if they were looped but I can't find any that aren't from China (and another 3 week wait...)

Any advice?

Nicko have you checked Realparts and Stewmac websites? Sure Weirdy can help you on this

Should be able to dig some up somewhere...is there any reason you cant use these ones though?

Here's a couple...

Jaycar (http://www.jaycar.com.au): B10K 9mm (http://www.jaycar.com.au/Passive-Components/Resistors/Potentiometers/10K-9mm-Square-Potentiometer-Linear-Single-Gang-%28B%29/p/RP8510), B10K 16mm (http://www.jaycar.com.au/Passive-Components/Resistors/Potentiometers/10K-16mm-Potentiometer-Linear-Single-Gang-%28B%29/p/RP7510), B10K 24mm (http://www.jaycar.com.au/Passive-Components/Resistors/Potentiometers/10K-24mm-Potentiometer-Linear-Single-Gang-%28B%29/p/RP3510) (all are PCB mount pin lugs)

Mammoth Electronics B10K (http://www.mammothelectronics.com/Alpha-Potentiometer-p/280-100-b.htm) (solder lugs, US based)

Looped solder lugs make it easier for things like guitar wiring, but there's no reason you can't use PCB mount lugs - just a bit fiddly to solder sometimes.

So it's cool to solder the wire straight onto the lug? Just seemed a bit awkward is all. The pot won't actually be PCB mounted as this is just point to point.

Yep, wire straight to the lug is ok, just watch you don't cook them as the small lugs can heat up pretty quick. Like I said, fiddly but no reason you can't do it. I've used the 9mm PCB lug pots in pedals both as PCB mount and wire direct to lug.

No worries mate. Thanks everyone

I've soldered directly to PCB mount lugs, a pair of helping hands is critical to get it good, then I used a little bit of heatshrink to seal it all up and make it look pretty

I would solder directly to the lug and heatshrink. It's just fiddly to hold the wire still until the solder sets!

cheers,
Gav.
