Enter your finished guitar here to be judged for Pit Bull Guitars May 2015 Guitar of the Month.

Remember:

One guitar per member per month (if we have more than 6 entries)
It must be a Pit Bull Guitars kit (mods and upgrades acceptable)

We need 4 photos:

full guitar shot from the front;
close up of the body finish;
shot of the back of the guitar; and
close up of the headstock (please, no brand name logos)

Post your photos in this thread.

Please note: From the outset, this competition has always been exclusively for amateur and hobby guitar kit builders. If you are making and successfully selling finished guitars (from scratch or from kits), for a profit, then please do not enter this competition. Making guitars for friends or selling a finished guitar or two for charity does NOT disqualify you.

Competition for June closes 31 May 2015

Winner will be judged by the Pit Bull Guitars Judging Panel, including the winner of the May GOTM.

Ok, lets get the ball rolling for June 2015 GOTM.

Finally got this finished...

JR-1M, bone nut, Kluson tuners, Epiphone truss rod cover, GFS P90 & bridge, CTS pots (full sized 500K vol & 250K tone) w/orange drop cap. Switchcraft jack. Colour was a home brew Colortone orange mix. Finish is 4 very thin coats of TruOil. I've kept this finish matte and non-grain filled. The grain came up very nice with no special technique, just the dye and TruOil.

I may upload some better pics once my real camera has charged up. Only have a phone available so limited angle lens..

Hey Andrew, is this the one where we were worried about the neck pocket? Would you say that our concerns were unwarranted?

Looks like a pretty sexy JR to me.

How does the neck feel to play? Is there any movement?

Sorry if you addressed this already.

andrewdosborne
23-05-2015, 09:43 PM
Adam, yes this is the model with neck pocket concerns. No issue with the join and the neck feels great. I did have to sand a bit off the neck heel to level things out but it was only a minor fix.

As you can see it's now made its home under my reading lamp hence now primary axe ☺

great first build xDruichii, seen this colour done on a Jazzmaster before and it looks very cool with the red pearloid pickguard.
I'd remove the plastic off the pickguard and post another photo of the close up

Awesome work Grant, I'm on verge of a lower octave purchase and you've now made my choice that little bit harder on style of kit. If I could knock one up only half as good as this I'd be over the moon!

Thanks again Wokks, a bit optimistic and there could be more entries yet to come.
Thanks Andrew, whatever your choice ends up being I'm sure it will turn out at least as well.

Hi this is my entry just for fun, got no chance but wanted to show off Pablo's awesome clear blue pickguard and tremelo cover.
I've still got about 4 axes to enter so what the hell. This was another Dingotone beta test so have finished all of the colours I have tested now.
It has the standard blackheart sassafras headstock veneer. I've been waiting for a blue stain to use Pablo's awesome clear pickguard and tremelo cover lets you see all the electrics and parts. First time I've had to clean the inside of the covers !

Love the guards. Reminds me a lot of transparent gameboys. Can't say I could get the wiring looking that presentable though lol. How many coats DT was that?

Andrew - you did a fantastic job with the headstock decal.

Neverwas - your spray work is insanely good on this beauty. The ability to pull off that reverse burst makes it a front runner amongst any collection of axes here, IMHO.

Wokka, that guitar just makes me think of Picasso's "blue" period. It has those sort of washed out blue and grey hues.

I've always loved the clear Dan Armstrong guitars, my mate had one for a while and I got to play it once. Way too heavy.

Back in the early to mid 70s I had a couple of Dan Armstrong amps, 30w combo and then a 100w head with an 18" JBL the old Fender VI sounded great through that one.

Back on topic, some very nice work this month sees the bar going up yet again well done guys

Here is my entry in the months competition, my Sonoro Junior Supreme.
It is the JR-1DC with a few mods. They are Gotoh locking tuners, Bare Knuckles "Supermassive" P90 PUP, Graphtech Resomax Wraparound bridge and a custom "Cocked Wah" wiring harness with Mojo Dijon caps (22uf &47uf), switchable by a push/pull volume pot. Stained with Wudtone Carmine Gypsy on the back and a combination of Carmine Gypsy and Hot Auburn on the front. Finished with 6 coats of Tru-Oil on the neck, and a combination of Tru-Oil and Feast Watson Wipe-On Poly on the Body (about 10 coats I think).

I will posted a link to a facebook video of my son Patrick playing along with "If You Want Blood" by AC/DC. Enjoy!

Hey RembrandtPussyHors (not sure how you got away with that username, the Mods must be sleeping), yes, we work a month ahead, so the June GOTM just closed on 31 May. We hope to have the winner announced tonight.

If you check back again in a short while, you should see that the July GOTM will be open, so please enter your beautiful JR-1DC there.

Ok folks, the scores are in...

Thanks to all four entrants, another very tough month to judge.

In submission order:

1. Andrew Osborne’s JR-1M
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3202&d=1432344481

"Very nicely executed, super clean and classy. Makes me want to dress up to play this beast."

"Very clean, the grain pops. Very nicely put together. I like it."

"Awesome looking headstock! Well done! Always a nice touch to show the world this is your guitar by naming your headstock. The neck looks fantastic. Must be great to play. That extra effort on the Fretboard looks well worth it. You can be pleased with the finish on this body. Looks great! Accessories all look good, just what you would expect. Nice work. Looks like you have taken the time to set up the intonation as well.
This guitar is one you can be immensely proud of."

"Elegant and classy - I like it!"

2. xDruichii’s JM-1
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n169/The_Taking/frontjm-1.jpg

"Sooooo nice especially for a rattle can finish. Only thing I'd like is a logo to own it, otherwise stellar effort."

"Well put together guitar nicely finished, lost half a point for no truss rod cover."

"The neck appears to be well prepared and finished. Fretboard looks great. You can be pleased with the finish on this body. Looks great!"

"Accessories all look good, just what you would expect. Nice work. You have done really well especially for a first build."

"Nicely finished - great combination of colours and finishes. Could do with a logo! Few minor blemishes in the flat finish, but a credible first entry!"

3. Neverwas’s RC-4
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3284&d=1432817998

"Fantastic, love the paint job. It is very well put together. This is the one that would attract me."

"If this ain't photoshopped I'm calling bull. Perfect burst and colours to bring a classic model into modern times, tasty upgrades makes this something very special. Ps, can I touch it?"

"Awesome looking headstock! Well done! Always a nice touch to show the world this is your guitar by naming your headstock. The neck looks fantastic. Must be great to play. That extra effort on the Fretboard looks well worth it. The Burst on this beauty is just sensational! AWESOME! Really nice touches on the accessories, they always make a guitar stand out. Looks like you have taken the time to set up the intonation as well. Just WOW! Absolutely loving this guitar! I have ZERO doubt that this will adorn the front page of PBG over the month of July."

"Amazing effort this - another great RC-4"

4. Wokka’s ST-1 in Bondi Blue
http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3293&d=1432954534

"Wokka you're consistency is freakish. Love the colour and the hs, really into the covers. Again another rad build from our resident kit guru. How many kits is that now mate? I'd love to spend a day in your cave."

"Seems well made, nice original scratch plate suits the colour choice."

"As always a guitar by Wokka will come complete with all the necessaries, but what a nice surprise to see the 'clear blue' scratchplate. On it's own it could have taken out the competition.....almost. Good looking headstock. Naming and branded. The neck looks fantastic. Must be great to play. That extra effort on the Fretboard looks well worth it. As mentioned really nice touch with the scratchplate, really makes this guitar stand out."

"Certainly worth a go, but the shielding and cavities under the clear take away from it for me."

And the winner is...

Neverwas’s RC-4

3440

Congratluations Neverwas, these RC-4 kits feature prominently in our GOTM, but your blue burst was something extraordinary. Well done!

Ummm, thanks again everyone. Some excellent entries this month, Andrew's JR is amazing for a hurried build, XDruichii's JM turned out fantastic for a first build and Wokkas ST is well built as always and a bit unique with those covers. I can assure you there is no photoshop shennanigans happening here, it's all real :). I took advantage of a sunny afternoon for the glamour shots, so when the RC is lying on the ground it's reflecting the sky on the finish, may be why it shows up as blue instead of green on some screens. I suspect there may be a bass-napper in the judging panel :p. Going by Simon's entry and other nearly finished builds, next month isn't going to any easier to judge.
Thanks
