Hi chaps.

I'm noticing a waxy residue on my Dingotone top coats. Why would that be? Putting it on too thick? cold weather?

Cheers.

Hi Patto, how long are you leaving the finish to cure and are you wiping with the grain t remove all excess finish before hanging up to dry? Dingotone is partly wax so any residue left behind is going to be the finish itself.

Any images you can post?

Hi Patto,
I've had the same residue left after DT clear. Best thing to do is use super fine steel wool between coats, wipe off any residue and apply thin coats of DT clear. As it is cooler best leave it cure in a dust free enviroment for 4 or more days.
See how you go next coat

Hey Patto,

One of the main causes of this is over working the finish!
Literally wipe once, very thin coat and leave it alone... Any bits you miss on the first pass will be picked up in subsequent coats.

The hardest thing is leaving the finish alone.. I see bits I missed on a coat and I have to battle myself not to try and touch it up :)

Hey DB, that sounds like what I was doing. Have definitely been going back over bits trying not to miss bits. Still sand it back with steel wool as Wokka suggests?

Yep, give it a light rub with 400 grit sandpaper to remove the offending layer.
Then give each new coat a buff with 0000 steel wool.
