With a plank body or just a neck that sits on a tripod?

DB was toying with the idea of building a scratch upright bass, not sure how far it's got. He did show me a design of the body. He's probably got bogged down with 400 other projects since !

If it was made decently I think you would get a fair market for one, they are not very common at a decent price and a lot of bass players (myself included) would like to dabble in the world of uprights.

I for one would be interested, after I finish current projects (a year or two at least).

Pickups (piezo) could be an issue from companies who generally only source magnetic pickups. There would also be a lot of compromises about exactly how it was made etc.

If you are looking at upright basses, what would be the chances of doing something like a Yamaha Silent Cello?

the Yammy silent Guitars sound quite nice, I imagine the Cello is quite good....

Well, yes, the Mrs is learning cello so it would be for her, it might help smooth over any future purchases...
