Building an LP for an old Mate and will be all upraded Gold Hardware and still looking at pickup selection.
Currently testing colours around Red to Brown to see what looks the goods.
If it was mine I think it would be the tealish colour pictured

That burgundy'ish sample the gold knobs are sitting on looks pretty tasty with the flame.

Liking the burgundy in centre of the pieces nearest to camera the colour makes grain pop

awesome grain Tony, where is this kit from ? I love the 4 or 5 blue lines of binding, its a really classy look.
Have you stained some similar flamed maple pieces where are they from ?

I think any colour will look amazing on that cap, but agree try a burst

Sorry Wokka missed this post. Kit was from BYO in the US. The veneer to do test colours I got off Ebay from a mob in Tassie ( will find their Id for you).

So put some colour on the guitar today and a little different from the samples. reckon will come up nicely with clear applied.
Going with a set of HZ4 pickups to kick her along and Black Tusq nut that came with the kit.

Stained the headstock with the same stain as body and began staining the back and neck in Mahagony F&W.
still too do sides.

Have found a lot of cracks in the binding on neck that have soaked in some stain. Have scraped and made no difference.
Was wondering if anyone had encountered and fixed before.

Hey Tony looking good. I like the FW mahogany colour is nice and deep. I've seen cracks in the body binding and the same look with stain. If you have scraped and it is deeper not much you can do but treat it as a vintage look.

i agree with Wokka. Some of the quality of the binding seems to leave a lot to be desired...
