A couple of ideas to consider future additions to the kit line-up ...

1. Resonator Guitar - all metal body (rather than wooden body) no pick-ups, just the resonator cone.

... and ... (I know I'll cop some flak for this suggestion but I also know Adam will appreciate it! :D )

2. Banjo - traditional 5-string "bluegrass" resonator-back type (rather than the open-back "Dixieland" type)

... ok, you can all stop laughing now! :D

Yep, I'm a fan of both (I clearly remember Dingobass laughing at my banjo). They do a Resonator guitar, but it just looked a bit "cheap" for my liking. If there's a genuine demand I will certainly supply. See what support you get Scott. BTW, nice photo buddy, you look a lot like James Baker (ex-Hoodoo Gurus) who's a bit of a local legend here in Perth.

... look a lot like James Baker (ex-Hoodoo Gurus) ... - nice to know I've got at least one claim to fame even if it is as a doppleganger! :D

The resonator they make ... is a full metal body? ... or just a timber acoustic with the metal resonator cone?

adam

I've seen both versions, Scott. I'll see if I can get some photos.

Oooooooooooh.... Resonator..... Do they do a Bass version? That I would buy :)

dingobass
26-11-2014, 06:18 PM
Oh, and the definition of a gentleman is some one who can play a Banjo but chooses not to do so in public.......

adam
26-11-2014, 06:28 PM
Resonator bass, DB? Ok, I'll bite. You want the wood/metal version or the all metal body version?

dingobass
26-11-2014, 06:30 PM
Ba ha ha ha! :)

dingobass
26-11-2014, 06:31 PM
Seriously though, a resonator acoustic Bass could be rather cool even if it is totally impractical :)

dingobass
26-11-2014, 06:34 PM
Well bugger me.... Miss Fiona just did a quick google search and resonator Bass does actually exist!
I sooooooo want one now!

adam
26-11-2014, 06:34 PM
No, I was serious, but would it be an acoustic bass, or with pickups? Sounds like it might be another project for you DB. What pickups? Scale length? Could be an interesting "exclusive" for PBG.

dingobass
26-11-2014, 06:44 PM
Well just look at this...

It would have to be metal body, 34" scale and possibly with a piezo pup on board..

Ok, I'll see what they can do.

I hope you've got the Stetson to go with that, DB! :D

Hahahahahaha.... Sadly, yes i do.. Left over from my rodeo days :)

Scott J.

Oh, I just new it! ... with a fondness for an "upright resonator bass" I knew there had to be streak of Tex-Mex hiding below the surface there somewhere :D

I'd be interested in a banjo for sure.

Fretworn
27-11-2014, 08:57 AM
Banjo doesn't interest me, but a reso definitely does. Not that I would have the finances at the moment.

But the reso would have to be a biscuit bridge, not a spider bridge.

I'd be keen on a metal resonator for sure, those things sound great amped up with slide.
DB get a resonator bass and it will resonate all the way down the hill !

Crank the Hartke to 11 and resonate the houses off the hill? :)

wokkaboy

sounds good DB, I haven't seen the Hartke over about volume 2, as long as no houses on the hill start an avolanch !

Have had it up to 5... my eyeballs started to melt and the windows were fairly rattling!

pablopepper
27-11-2014, 11:13 AM
You had your 3500 to 5 inside your house?! Brave. I played gigs where mine didn't go over 3. In fact the only time I remember getting it to 5 was at an outdoor festival in Cairns. At home it was strictly under 1.

dingobass
27-11-2014, 12:33 PM
Only the once... Copped a complaint from an old dude 1k down the road for my efforts :)
Not sure if it was the volume or my song choice.... Killed by death at 500db might have been the problem...

haha nice one Pablo, still one of my favourite movies Back to the Future. Didn't Marty McFly play a Gibbo axe at the ball that wasn't released in that year ?

pablopepper
27-11-2014, 01:04 PM
Yes! He played a 1958 Gibson ES-345TD in 1955. Great flick.

wokkaboy
27-11-2014, 01:07 PM
yeah Pablo maybe behind the scene Marty went forward in time to 1958 and brought the Gibbo back to 1955. Love his version of Johnny B Goode. And the look on the face of the dude with the phone that said 'have a listen to this'
Another birthday today Jimi Hendrix would have turned 72 today

Ok, I'll see what they can do.

Did you ever get anywhere sourcing a resonator option?

adam
11-12-2014, 01:52 PM
Hi csim this year s something we will look at next year. The ones I've seen just look a bit cheap.

Hey Ads any idea on ballpark price for a banjo?

adam
11-12-2014, 04:49 PM
The one I saw (5 string full size) would sell around $150.

A guy at our church is threatening to learn banjo "one day" - now if I had one - he'd have no excuse not to learn.

Scott J.
12-12-2014, 11:44 AM
Yep, there's a "secret banjo player" inside of every guitarist ... the only difference is that some of us are brave enough (or nuts enough) to admit it and some aren't ...

I know's Ads is an admitted fan ... but despite his protestations otherwise, I can just imagine DB "plunk-a-plunk"-ing on his hidden bass-banjo when he thinks no-one's looking :D ... (oh, maybe I shouldn't have said that until after he's finished mixing up my Dingotone "Grrr-orange" for me! )

wokkaboy
12-12-2014, 11:49 AM
yer I think you are onto something there Scott, I reckon DB quietly may have a banjo bass hidden that he secretly pulls out now and then !

Scott J.
12-12-2014, 12:33 PM
These "classics" have to be hiding somewhere ... are we sure that DB doesn't have one (or more) hidden away!

... in fact, maybe with a collar and tie ... (do you think there might be more than just a passing similarity?) :D

808

... but I'm sure he doesn't have the legs for a "flapper's" dress :D

12-12-2014, 12:38 PM
haha nice one Scott, odds are very high that DB has one of these (or more) tucked away out of sight ! These are too big to hide behind his Hartke bass amp !

13-12-2014, 02:43 PM
Sorry Adam, 7 string doesn't cut it for a djent/bluegrass band. You'd need at least 10 strings on that. And even then, the player would only use the bottom two.

Either that, or the cover for your new album 'The Joy of Frets'.
