This would have to be the most accessible album these guys have released thus far, with some tracks bordering on (dare I say it) the commercial. If you enjoy detuned guitars, technical songwriting, hard rock vocals whilst retaining a somewhat mainstream appeal this album (if you haven't already heard it) is definitely worth checking out.
Still not something you'd put on if Nana's round for a cuppa, or on the flipside, not as blatantly normal as Dribbleback or Foo Fighters but just outside the realms of mainstream to still retain it's "cool", "proggy" edge. If you appreciate skillful songwriting, distorted guitars and hooky melodies, Mastodon serves it up in bowl fulls on this one.

Yep me too, there's gonna have to be something pretty special to top this one!! I love how these guys do the "making of'" vids, much similar the one they did for Crack the Skye. You can really get a feel for Brent's banjo roots with that picking hand, pretty fu*king brilliant I reckon!

That's my new quote... "70% of your life you'll tune it, the other 30% you'll play it"

Ah, banjo explains a lot actually. Brent's selection of guitars is very un-metal. 12 string Maton mastersound! I love a band with a sense of humour.

Thanks for the heads-up @Pablo. I hadn't heard this album before, but have had it on high rotation ever since I snagged it. Awesome.

cheers,
Gav.
