Hi guys,
Since stringing my SG1 guitar, I've had two E strings break in the tail piece, the first was the one with the kit and the second a D'adario string. Any thoughts?
cheers
Dale

Pictures are always helpful, the guitar as well as the broken strings if you still have em'.

Is it breaking where the string wraps around the ball or somewhere else?

both times where the string wraps around the ball, there's no string left on the ball.

it there anywhere inside the tailpiece that could be putting pressure on the string where the ball lodges?

It is most likely being caused by a sharp inner edge on the ball seat, just enough to cut the high E under tension. If you insert the largest drill bit you can, ideally around 4.5mm, then just using your fingers turn it counter-clockwise (so it's not drilling) a few times it should remove the sharp inner edge and hopefully fix the problem.

yeah that sounds like the problem Dale must be a sharp edge where the ball sits
Good old Mr Fixit Mr Weirdy to the rescue again !
Might pay to raise the tailpiece a fraction too Dale so the string angle from the bridge isn't as abrupt and the string will have less pressure where its rubbing against the tailpiece

Thanks guys, I'll try the drill now, and raise the tailpiece and let you know how it goes.

Dale main thing is to make sure there are no sharp edges on both the small and larger holes where the string will rest
