Howdy folks,
Just ordered an IB-6S. Kit looked amazing for the price.

I'm keen to hear how previous builders have set up/finished/kitted out the new bass. I'm a little uncertain on what to use to finish the bass, especially with the salted maple front. Did you use a two-colour setup, with the spalted having a different colour at the back? What did you use to finish the maple?

And also, some comments abut the qualities of the pickups and electronics would be appreciated. I'm tempted to swap out the stock pups for some actives.

Cheers,
Hh

Assuming that you've checked out this thread: http://www.pitbullguitars.com/community/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=973.0 ?

Really with a spalted top - you want to go with something that highlights the grain. Have a look through a couple of other spalted outcomes and see what others have done (thinking LP-1S). Also find it handy to google - the kits here are good quality representations of other guitars around, so finding examples of what others have done with spalted maple can be enlightening. Two on the forum to look for / contact are Wokka and Lawry, both have done an IB-6S.

Hi HH,
I built an IB-6S, pics below and really love this bass, its great looking and sounding machine.
I wanted to highlight the spalted cap as Brendan said, so I used a wudtone amber stain which is quite a light brown. Think Tim built one and clear coated the cap. I used Feast Watson jarrah stain for the side/back of the body for a contrast. I clear coated the neck.
The standard pickups sound pretty good and I installed a Tone Monster SBK-3 active electronics it really has a punchy sound.
Check also in the build diaries for Lawrys and Tims IB-6S and possibly the gallery section.
Start a build diary when you get the kit and ask any questions
