Enter your finished guitar here to be judged for Pit Bull Guitars November Guitar of the Month.

Remember:

One guitar per member per month (if we have more than 8 entries)
It must be a Pit Bull Guitars kit (mods and upgrades acceptable)

We need 4 photos:

full guitar shot from the front;
close up of the body finish;
shot of the back of the guitar; and
close up of the headstock (please, no brand name logos)

Post your photos in this thread.

Competition for November closes 31 October 2014.

Winner will be judged by the Pit Bull Guitars Judging Panel, including the winner of the October GOTM.

I thought I'd start us off this month after the stellar October GOTM!

This my first build - an STA-1M with a reverse stock.

All stock components with a Wudtone and Tru Oil finish.

well done Nick, great looking and sounding build, no mucking around entering. I can see November being a big month !
So is it an advantage to use 5 trem springs ? I've never tried it. Suppose you don't need the same tension as 3 springs

Nick, great entry nice demo. Your STA-1 really does have that surfy vibe going on with the grain and stain. Headstock gives it a unique look and interesting dynamics with the strings

Okay, going to enter this month in the hope that there's not 12 bloody awesome entries like last month haha. Although it looks like I'm probably already at a loss as Nick's entry is fantastic!

Anyways, here's my first ever build and first entry for guitar of the month.

My JM-1 'Jag Dispute', inspired by one of my favourite bands: La Dispute.

nice one Shoey, no worries about the help along the way, thats what the forum is for to help builders build great axes ! I'm sure you have learnt a heap and most important part is don't rush it. Nice clean looking axe, you must be proud of it for a first build. Hows it sound and play, all stock hardware ?

It's cool to see two of the exact same kit being built and how each builder's choices make them so different. Will be cool to see ours side by side mate.

shoey
25-10-2014, 12:47 AM
Sounds surprisingly better than thought it would being bog stock. Bit of fret buzz on the first few frets and the truss isn't playing ball (maybe a taller nut me thinks). Will eventually have a black pick guard and tone riders but alas the bank account is slim on the count of having another bub.

bargeloobs
26-10-2014, 07:01 PM
Hey man, not really sure what you mean by "the truss isn't playing ball" but if your frets aren't level (I can't remember you mentioning doing a fret job in your build diary) unfortunately no amount of truss rod adjustment is going to fix the issue.
This is one of the unseen expenses that come with guitar building that no one tells you about when starting out but if you want your guitar to play and feel like it's supposed to a fret level is crucial. I can't see how getting a taller nut from the standard plastic one will be of any benefit unless you're into high action (yuck)
If the budget allows further down the track I'd recommend getting hold of a leveling block, re-crowning file and a fret rocker, if you're serious about having a guitar that is setup correctly and plan on more builds in the future it's definitely a worthwhile (not to mention necessary) investment.
Strat looks insane BTW, it looks like you've been building guitars for years mate.

so think this is the 5th entry this month. This is my entry, LP-1M mahogany body and neck.
Popped the flames on the body with a black stain, then finished in Dingotone Coolangatta gold. Back, sides and neck finished in FW jarrah stain. About 8 coats of tru oil over the entire guitar.
Headstock veneer is blackheart sassafras. I purposely ran the grain horizontal to match the flame on the cap. Truss rod cover is cut out of camphor. Bone nut cut and slotted.
Pickups are tonerider Generators sound great. Got push pull pots to coil split both neck and bridge pups. Hoping I get a bonus half a point for getting Wayne's dog Odie in one of the photos !

Hey guys, here is my ib7
candy red over marble with a black burst top, black back and sides, 2k clear. Neck is satin clear with a black head stock face.
Electronics are a stock 3 way, switch craft Jack, cloth wire, push pull volume to tap both pickups which are dimarzio custom blaze 7's in both the bridge and neck. Logo work by andyport and truss rod cover by some champion on eBay.
Currently running the stock trem and nut but thinking I'll change the trem to one I can use a d-tuner with. I'll try to get a video demo up today also. Cheers!

Thought I'd finally enter the TL-1 I build a while ago, since I finally got around to doing a decal for the headstock and refinished the home made pick guard. The details are in my TL-1 build of where I experimented in winding my own pups, and the 4 way switch mod along with roller string keepers.

Also the maple neck must be an option. Looks great mate !

thanks Wokka, it was a standard TL-1 kit, it had the maple neck and bass wood body. The bridge is a Wilkinson compensated with through body string. The pick guard was made from 2mm 5ply aircraft grade (have some left over from my rc days.) To me the pups sound great, but I still cant play for the life of me..tis one of those "gonna do things" for me to take it down to Bill at the music shop to get him to give it a try-out for the sound, it will happen lol.. eventually

What software/hardware do you need to overdub the guitar over the music track ?

ponch
31-10-2014, 10:42 AM
I just use cubase mate. Have a stereo track with an imported audio file of the song you want to play to. (File, import, audio) then a mono track with my guitar. Arm the guitar track, and record like normal. Export the file and bring it into the vid software and line up the audio to the vid.

Alright, the scores are and we have the results.

Big thanks to our Judges, it gets tougher every month as the quality of builds just keeps getting better.

Also an extra big thanks to Dave Haens, from Belgium, our first International Panel Judge... I'm guessing English isn't Dave's first language, so he did a great job with his comments.

So, here's all the feedback in submission order:

1. Nick’s STA-1MR (Reverse Headstock)
Nicely finished, nice blend of colours with a nice light feel. Would have liked a logo or something on the headstock to own it.
Have to enjoy the reverse headstock (my fav guitarist does this to his strats) so points scored right away.
Love how the turquoise reacts on the grain. Very nice build and great look
Great work in fact really great work considering this is a first build.
Excellent first build, that colour looks sensational and really works with the reverse headstock.

2. Mike’s JM-1
Nicely executed. Would have liked the outline of the rose sticker to be a little less visible, but nice choice of colours and nicely finished.
Nicely done. White is always tough to get right. All round decent effort.
I'm a fool for personalisation so loving this build for that. Very clean look on this one.
Ditto (great work) another amazing first build.
One of my favourite kits in the range and you've done a first class job. Would definitely pick this up in a store.

3. Shoey’s STA-1MR (Reverse Headstock)
Well executed. Good blend of colours. Solid effort, but up against a range of sterling guitars this month.
Keeps getting better this comp. A reverse tele and now the strat! Big points! Well put together!
Blue does so much good on a guitar. Very high end finish.
Really well finished hard to believe this is also a first build.
Another amazing first build... puts my first to shame.

4. Bargeloob’s TL-1 Bladecatcher
Freakishly good guitar – love the attention to detail and all the extras that have been stacked in here. Elegant and classic colour choice.
I'm surprised Bargie has managed to hold onto this. What a derirable guitar in every sense.
Awesome upgrades by a man setting the pace and threatening Andy's mantle as the King of the comp's! This is just WOW!
Ok this is one classy rock-machine. Loving how the pearl binding goes with the black. This one could hang in special corner in a guitar shop.
Fantastic great finish love the headstock very classy.
I love everything about this guitar, you've knocked this one out of the Park Bargeloobs. You should be very proud of this guitar.

5. Wokka’s LP-1M.
Good to see Wokka branching out. Has extracted every single grain out of the flame top. Black bling has really finished this guitar off nicely.
Great colour choices, grain looks fantastic. You have set a high standard and consistency is sensational in entering nearly every GOTM.
This is my kind of guitar. Love the smoked look of this build.
Great finish really makes the grain pop.
I think this is one of the best flame maple finishes I've seen, nice work Wokka.

6. Andrew’s IB-7
This is a NICE guitar – very good attention to detail, elegant and simple. Like it a lot.
Andrew has done an awesome job with this and a great sound demo too! great paint job. This has everything a seven stringer could desire…
This one got hard rock written all over it. Very cool dark guitar.
Another work of art.
This one is very special, the colours and level of gloss work so well I'm prepared to look past the fact it has 7 strings. First class work Andrew.

7. Matt’s SV-1 Swirl
Not a massive swirl fan, but this works with the guitar. Nicely executed.
Swirls are always interesting and this one looks particularly good. Well built with some fine touches, especially the dark to light shading as the paint job approaches the neck.
Swirling is something i tried and gave up for i couldn't get it right. So wow on the swirling on this one.
Cannot fault. The finish is deep and rich and glossy. Yum.
Not personally a fan of the swirl, but this one looks great. Excellent job.

8. PabloPepper’s RC-4
Never been a blue guitar person. Until now. Pablo – that is making me itch to build an RC-4 NOW.
Beautiful looking guitar, there's always that appeal in the Ricci's! Colour works well all the way through to the headstock. and blends immaculately throughout. Excellent effort!
Yeah wow, this bass realy is a work of art. Love how the headstock-shape goes with the body.
Really well finished looks fantastic.
Another stunning looking Ricky bass, great job PP.

9. AJ’s TL-1
Nicely executed, stunning finish, but the colour blend doesn’t quite work for me (dark brown, light brown, black, chrome, brass).
Always love the quality of AJ's finishes. This is no exeption.
Can't go wrong with earth tones
Very very beautifull guitar
The shieldplate in wood...love it.
Beautiful bonus points for personalised scratch plate and decals.
A very nice looking Tele, AJ you're producing consistently brilliant guitars. You gotta be happy with this one too.

And so, the second Runner Up goes to...

Andrew's IB-7

70

The Runner Up goes to...

PabloPepper for his blue RC-4 Bass

71

And the Winner of Pit Bull Guitars November Guitar of the Month goes to:

Bargeloob's Double Cut TL-1 "Bladecatcher".

72

Congratulations Bargeloob's, that is a mighty fine guitar.
I think this is your second win. We may have to start issuing handicaps if you keep this up. j/k.

Been majorly busy getting things organized at our new house before we move in and I've unfortunately been neglecting the threads the last little while, so I jump on here for a quick nosy only to get the shock of my life!!!
I can genuinely say I'm in a bit of disbelief really and upon reading the judges comments more than a little choked up.
With such an awesome bunch of guitars this month, I reckon it could have been anyone's, honestly, every one of you blokes did such an awesome job!
Thanks judges, your job must have been a fricken hard one, and a massive shout out to Pabs and Andrew for making the podium, two guitars to absolutely die for.
So much inspiration and knowledge to be had in this community, it's mind blowing, cheers guys!!!

I'm downing number 4 as we speak:-)
It might sound like I'm talkin' shit here but honestly man, it dudes like you Wokks that make it possible for us learners to advance. It's the community that helps build these guitars just as much as the individual and I'm truly grateful for that.

good work Barge. Yeah the community is awesome and lifting the level on everyone's builds. The standard of 1st builds these days is incredible. When I started building it was try an idea and see if it works, and if not try another way

Couldn't agree more man!
I guess it turned out to be a fitting tribute to my trusty SG that I had to sell to fund this build so...yeah, that makes me happy.

No she was the real deal, a stripped back version they dubbed the "Special Faded".
Now that I've almost got my very own workshop, my dream would be to try a scratchy of the "Bladecatcher" but a neck-through, naked model, covered in Dingotone. I dunno yet, my plan was to sell the "Bladecatcher" to fund my next build but I really don't want to part with it now...lol.

nice looking SG Barge. Be hard to part with the Bladecatcher, and a scratch one next to it will look very cool.
Sounds like it was worth moving house just for a new man cave ! good work

Congrats Bargie, worthy winner. Some awesome guitars that made it very difficult to choose. Some judges attempted to abstain but discovered that was against the rules!
The quality of the first builds is so high and this has to be in some big way due to the forum and the help that is there and the shared wisdom that is recorded in the pages. This is what it takes to make our forum one of the premier forums in the world for aspiring guitar builders. Rock on!

Thanks again guys, still pretty amazed really. Hey Weirdy, if you're reading this, I swapped my .022uf cap out for a Sprague .047mfd in the hopes that I could get the tone control working but still to no avail, any ideas mate?

If you followed that SD wiring diagram then the tone should have a noticeable effect with either cap, so there must be something dodgy. It could be a bad/incorrect connection or possibly even a dead/cooked pot. Maybe post some pics of your wiring in your build diary, specifically how the tone is connected, and the collective intelligence can take a look.
