View Full Version : Fingerboard scum

My daughter was given a second hand acoustic guitar by a friend he wasn't using it. It's a cheap guitar, but it looks nice and plays pretty well, now. I changed the strings on it for her and discovered the worst case of fingerboard scum build up I've ever seen. I had to sand it off with steel wool. The photo is half way through the job. There were mountain ranges of the the stuff!

crikey Fretty, I've seen some fretboard scum but thats a classic case. If you did a triple bend the strings would be covered in scum. Keep up the steel woolling !

The guy who owned it before must have worked in a fish and chip shop. That's a lot of grunge!

i get that on my guitars from when ive been working on bikes then gone and played my guitar without cleaning my hands. nice mucky black buildup on the maple fretboard yumm
