That body is nicely finished Ben and like the colour. The neck has that lovely aged look. What did you use for your finishes.

BenWA
07-09-2014, 03:37 AM
cheers guys. body is wudtone mahogany on both sides (the colour is slightly deeper on the back, i guess it cos the front is capped and the slightly different cuts absorbed the colour differently), and the neck is vintage yellow wudtone - was gonna go with a more natural colour for the neck but it wasnt in stock at the time.

im happy with how it turned out, the warmth of the body colour goes with it well i reckon. the mahogany didnt come out how i planned either-i expected it to be darker and browner but i like how it turned out more i reckon

Wow 2 amazing entries already this month! Things are off to a great start. Ben the tele looks great dude! How does the Wudtone feel on the fretboard? I'm thinking of doing the same on my ash tele. Any chance of the sound demo? I bet she sounds awesome! Mikah, I can't say I've ever been a fan of this model, but you've brought it to life! I love what you've created here. The yellow finish is just flawless.

cheers,
Gav.

Hi fellow builders !
My entry for GOTM ........ Its a reproduction of one of my favorite artists guitars and probably the most iconic looking one ever built. FRANKENSTRAT !!! I have tried to replicate it as close to the original as possible right down to the wear marks and stripes , 1971 quarter as a tremolo block, cigarette burns on the head-stock, rusted selector switch in the middle cavity,re-positioned tone knob for a volume knob and loads of other quirky things that this guitar had done to it over the years. It was probably one of the most tedious builds I have done except for the Mirror Iceman..... and to look at the the original ( with a price tag of $25k) and my copy it would be pretty hard to tell them apart in my opinion - The crazy thing is it plays and sounds amazing !!!! I have a youtube clip of me building it plus a short clip of me giving it a demo that i will post on the other forum.
Cheers Guys !

wow Trevor what an awesome tribute to EVH. The detail looks very close to the original. So with no pickup switch is the front single pup there for asthetics ?
So presume this was orignally an ST-1 kit ? can't wait to see the youtube vid of the build!

trevor.rawlings@raywhite.com
12-09-2014, 03:11 AM
Thats right Wokkaboy - Ed originally wanted a front pickup to work but didnt know how to wire it in so it just sat there , as for the pickup selector he placed it in there to basically throw people of the scent about how the guitar was set up ... in actual fact all he did was a Humbucker straight to Volume to input Jack !

12-09-2014, 04:43 AM
nice work on your research Trevor. I think I remember seeing a YT vid on this build a while ago ?

G'day guitar enthusiasts.

My first attempt at a custom guitar kit is this SG-1F.
The front is 2 wudtone colours blended. Azure Lagoon and Dark Onyx. There's slightly more of the Azure Lagoon with a 60-40 ratio in its favour. Finished with high gloss no ageing.

The rear is Dark onyx on its own and the neck and headstock are finished with a deep mapel stain and neck gloss finish.

Overall extremely pleased with the result and was a lot of fun building throughout the entire process.

Pete.

Very very big month! The work here is incredible. Just a thought, the top 3 get feedback on their work when the month is judged, what do you think about giving feed back to the runners up in no particular order. Just so it gives those guys the chance, knowledge and guidance to get up in the upper echelon next time round.

wokkaboy
13-09-2014, 06:21 AM
great idea Andrew but I think the judges have a tough enough task just picking the top 2 or 3 entries. I think if you ask the judges they may be able to give you feedback via email

Hi Andrew, we do collect comments from all the judges (except those who are just too busy) on all the entries, it's just a bit of work collating them all and then posting on the Forum, but it can be done. I'll give it a go for October and see how it plays out.

Thanks for the feedback.

Alright guys, here is my spalty lp kit i scored for a dime because it had a tiny chip in the top. the guitar is stock save for mid 90's epiphone les paul pickups, and vintage cloth wire. the guitar is stained with fw japan black top, acrylic black airbrush burst then cleared with 2 pack. sides, neck and head stock are japan brown, and a custom Dutchy truss rod cover finishers her off as a nod to my dutch wife.

thanks for your consideration!

Honestly mate, it plays better than my esp. I did the neck work but wasn't happy with it as it was my first go and was ultra cautious. Second time around the neck is flat as. The epi pups are actually pretty good. The bridge sounds huge distorted doing lead work and the bridge is less bassy, more mids and really clear. Very happy.

Ok...
After getting good vibes from all you guitarlovers during my build I enter my first guitarkit...
I took a look at the entries and i'm feeling not so sure bout entering anymore...

But the space has to be filled right?

My kit is an ES-2V
Used Chestnut spirit stain yellow over red and finished it off with 5 layers of Danish oil and a 3 superthin layers of Chestnut hardwax oil...
Tried to get a crack of burst-like thing inspired by the colour of classical instruments.
Hardware gold upgrade kit
Covers homemade with some padouk and 0.8 copper wire

I call it my "less Dave"

Less as in lesser ;)

Very very big month! The work here is incredible. Just a thought, the top 3 get feedback on their work when the month is judged, what do you think about giving feed back to the runners up in no particular order. Just so it gives those guys the chance, knowledge and guidance to get up in the upper echelon next time round.

Wot Wokka said :)

Thanks for all the amazing entries guys, I don't think we've ever had 12 entries before.

I'll get the judges started now and hopefully have a result by the weekend.

Your entry is getting a heap of likes Andrew, well done

Mate even since I've come on board, or since the sale, you can tell by the amount of new threads in the forums and these guys doing first time builds. How they have so much knowledge of the finishing process is anyone's guess but the standard across the board is amazing. I mean, my first build was a bit shite but hanging round you guys for a bit, the second was the lp and that turned out pretty good! I guess excellence breeds excellence.

And we'll done to Adam and crew for creating this company. Because they give a rip about guitars, we are able to come on here and learn a stack of cool stuff!

03-10-2014, 06:20 AM

And the results are in...

It was requested that we provide all the comments from all the judges, so here they are. (Note: a couple of the judges were a bit slack with providing comments, not naming any names {it was the two Phils})

So, without further ado... in alphabetical order:

1. Andrew’s LP-1S

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/AndrewLP-1-S.jpg

Beautiful colour and finish. A touch of class

Pretty special LP here.* Lots of nice attention to detail.* Would have liked to see more gradation in the burst, but apart from that a great guitar – you should be proud of this effort!

Bought the flame out nicely. I like the detail and the naming of the guitar via the truss rod cover

Wow, this one is really special. Such a great flame/gloss finish, you clearly know what you are doing. I look forward to seeing more builds from you Andrew.

2. BarryLicious’s MB-1

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/barryliciousMB-1.jpg

Technical and original finish. A unique guitar

Beautiful effect and nicely done. Would have loved to see a logo somewhere with your name on it Barry.

Interesting swirl effect.

Barrylicious, I'm not a fan of the swirl, but if I was, you would be my hero. This is so well executed I can start to see the appeal. A one-of-a-kind axe to treasure. Bonus points for the video.

3. BenWA’s TL-TH

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/BenWATL-1HA.jpg

Classic design with nice personalised touches.

Solid TL. Good clean lines – would have liked to see a logo somewhere to own it.

The TL-1TH is one of my favourite kits and this is a really nice execution. Tasteful and elegant, I would be happy to have this one in my collection.

4. Dave Haen’s ES-2V

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/DaveHaensES-2V-900x769.jpg

Oozes class and originality.

Amazing build – love the quilted look that has come out and the attention with the new pickguard.

Great attention to detail with the screw in the centre of the F hole as well. All up a super build.

Would be proud to have this one at home.

Great finish. Love the padauk covers. Awesome choice of colour and well thought out. I'd pick this up immediately.

Dave, this is just a beautiful guitar, there's nothing more to say. I would certainly like to take this one home. Can I take it home?

5. Gavin Turner’s MK-2

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/GavinTurnerMK-2.jpg

Exquisite finish. This guitar resonates with me. I must have it.

Spot on with this one. Love the nice simple look. Only negatives – some small waves in the pickguard near the tone knob. Other than that would have been right up there.

Difficult to get a really good white, this looks the business. Another excellent guitar from Gav.

Gavin, I've already said how much I was blown away by that video you posted. I LOVE this guitar, but I LOVE even more how cool you look playing it... you nailed that chord progression. When we look back on Pit Bull Guitars in years to come, this will be one of those "milestone" builds that we all remember fondly. Keep it up mate!

6. Lambert.Micah’s SH-1

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/lambert.micahSH-1.jpg

Unique, flawless, original.

Beautiful job – nicely sprayed, with good attention to detail. Love the simple looks of the guitar with the black bling. Nice to own the guitar though with some logo or something like that.

This looks well put together. Nice to see one of these completed as not too many have been done. At least there are no point off for forgetting to put in a truss rod cover!

I was blown away by the finish on this guitar, this guy really knows what he's doing. Well done for going "outside the box" with the colour choice, I think it really works.

7. Peter Cordi’s SG-1F

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/PeteCordiSG-1F-900x616.jpg

Truly a modern classic.

Nice guitar this one. Good choices in colours for the bling, etc. Nice flames coming through…

Understated, sophisticated, subtle… I like it!

8. The Duke’s LPA-1

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/TheDukeLPA-1.jpg

Classic looks. You know how it would sound before you even plug it in.

Love the earthy tones in this one. Not sure though how the cream goes with the rest of the look of the guitar – some black pup surrounds / rhythm / treble switch may have finished this one a treat.

Really like the rosewood effect the chosen colour has delivered, beautiful looking guitar.

The Duke, I have to say your photos let you down this time. It looks like a pretty awesome guitar, but... we can't really see any detail. What we can see looks sensational and I would certainly like such a sweet looking LP in my collection.

9. Trevor.Rawlings ST-1 FrankenStrat

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/TrevorRawlingsST-1.jpg

Amazing recreation of the original. A fitting tribute.

Amazing attention to detail to get it as like EVH’s strat. Nicely done with a nice effect. Downside – wouldn’t be the guitar I’d naturally go for in the store.

Loads of exacting detail and work that has gone into this build. *

I was blown away by the attention to detail on this build. Well done Trevor.

10. Wayne’s TL-1

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/WayneST-1.jpg

Timeless design and finish.

What can I say – another 4D tele. Finish is spot on.

Another very classy Tele from one half of 4D Guitars… keep 'em coming!

11. Wokka’s ST-1

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/WokkaST-1.jpg

Wouldn't be out of place on stage in the hands of a legendary guitar player.

As above (Wayne's TL-1) for a strat.

Wokka, it is so great to watch you progress with each build… you just need a pro endorsement and you will be on your way.

12. ZeroMick’s ES-1G

http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/zeromickES-1G.jpg

Truly stunning. If I saw this in a shop I couldn't get my money out fast enough.

Hard to knock this one. Loses out in the end due to lack of a logo (had to pick something). Apart from that – nice choice of colours from the body to the complementing bling and scratchplate.

Well executed and beautifully captured in the photo.

Well built, even better photography! Flames look great and colour chosen really complements this body. Kudos for completing the wiring too!

This one wins the photography award. A beautiful guitar photographed expertly.

And the runner up is... a tie...

Congratulations Gavin Turner and ZerosMick, you tied for the runner up spot. The judges couldn't split your guitars.

And the Winner of October Guitar of the Month is...

Dave Haens, well done, you are our first International winner. That is one beautiful looking guitar.

Also congrats to runners up Mick and Gav.
Would have been a tough one for the judges, well done to them.
I think everyones entries this month they should be proud of, all 12 would look great hanging in a music shop and gather heaps of interest.
