Just a quick (possibly silly) question re wiring my st1.

My wires aren't the same colours as those shown in the video so just wanted to make sure I was putting them in the right spot before I soldered them in place.

I have arranged the wires as I think they should be in the photos.

Thanks in advance

Tim

This diagram (http://www.pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/ST-1.pdf) should help guide you.

It looks like the red wire is your output from the volume pot, correct? That should connect to the 'tip' (outer) lug on the output jack. It's hard to tell in the pic, but it looks like both the black and white wires are connected as grounds to the back of the volume pot, is that correct? If so, you only need one of them to connect to the 'sleeve' (inner) lug on the output jack. And, if you haven't done so already, make sure there is a ground wire connected to the trem claw in the spring cavity (through the small connecting hole in the pickup rout).

It doesn't look like you have ground wires linking the backs of each pot together, which is fine as the copper shielding on the pickguard should do this. But, if you have a multimeter it may pay to check the continuity between the pot casings to ensure you have a good ground link.

Does that help?

Thanks heaps for the quick response Scott! Sorry about the photos I tried to get closer shots but they were too blurry as I was using my iphone camera.

The red wire is attached to the end of the volume pot closest to the pickguard, which I assume means that it the output as you say.

And yes both the black and white wires are attached to the top of the volume pot.

So just to be clear (sorry first time I've done anything to do with electronics!) the red wire will attach to the inner lug, which in the photo is the lug on the right hand side?

Then attach either the black or white wire to the other lug and the remaining wire to the trem claw?

Thanks for the help/diagram!

Cheers Tim

Tim,
if the red wire comes from the lug on the volume pot then it is the hot wire. Run the hot wire as shown on the diagram, so the hot wire tip doesn't touch the inner sleeve for the ground wire.
One of the black and white wires goes to ground on the output and the other to the trem claw. Lift the little tab on the claw with a screwdriver, wind bare wires around this and push the tab down then solder it. Lucky the ST kit is the easiest kit to solder only 3 joins.
Try a double neck SG is probably about 40+ solder joins !

Hey Woks, Yeah it's still the same ash strat I started in Jan! Haven't been able to work on it much for a couple of months with uni and work. Soooo close to being done now though just need a lovely Andy P decal and I'm sorted!
