Okay, that RC-4 bass looks an absolute winner, and has probably gone to the top of my list for when I get around to making a bass kit. But does anyone else think the headstock is too small for all the hardware? It looks like it may have even less room than the semi-hollow bass. Of course the picture may be deceiving me.

Well, i've got one on the way (I couldn't help myself), so when it gets here I'll let you know. Mind you, I'm in Brisbane so I'm sure other peeps will receive theirs before me.

Well lads,
No problem with them getting in each other's way. There may be a slight issue with the corner of one of the tuners slightly overhanging the "c" of the top of the headstock. See photos...

That said, the guitar is AMAZING to look at in person. Nice lines, nice job with the inlay, fretboard is bound, clean routs, etc., etc.

Overall - stoked.

Thanks Brendan, you've made the wait even harder.... Nice looking bass there.

awesome looking bass Brendan. Think if you drill the tuner screws on the A and G tuners on a slight angle you should be ok.
Other than the LP this may be the only other PBG model with binding on ash

maybe some very gentle dremmel work might fix it, grind it to suit the curve

I was gunna say the same Stan. hit it with the grinding wheel and drill a new hole for the screw 2.

Cheers PK

Ditto this. Will look neat and will do the job!

....and Wok's you officially have taken over the title "Most posts on PBG"!

Other thing I was thinking is that for 2-3mm, I could plug the hole and re-drill a couple of mm closer to the nut for the A. Hopefully any repairs will be masked by the ferrule. Careful positioning will see the G as it's close but not over the edge.

Thinking black for this bass (haven't got a black one yet), but the grain is super nice, so torn. Have named the project "Mack the Knife" in honour of the shark tooth inlay on the fretboard.

that fix should work fine too.

black is always good on a guitar, if the grain is nice do it on the sides back and neck only and keep the grain on the top cap, just a thought

Brendan, if you want a black stain but still want to see the grain then I'd go BMW or Dark Onyx. I know they are hard colours to work with but I think DB's black dingotone may be too dark to show the grain, you will have to ask DB that question

Bass headstock is a little smaller than what it is based on but doesn't really look unbalanced and wont make a difference unless you are looking to fit an original truss rod cover.

Having done a couple of basses, I'm kinda over the elephant ear F style tuners. Very tempted to upgrade / crossgrade to something a touch smaller.
