Hi all forumites,
we're almost halfway through May and no entries for June GOTM ?

could be a good month to enter Pest !

Everyone knows the rules !

stan

surely you are exempt from this one Wokka, too many wins

wokkaboy
15-05-2014, 06:18 AM
haha Stan I won't be entering June as I'll be a judge, thats if there is anything to judge.
I'll have a few entries to choose from for July though, I'm still chasing Andyports total !

First time entry!

So the design brief for this one was for a stripped back, made for rock guitar with a touch of class.... I'm pretty confident that I succeeded.

This is a SG-1F kit, all stock electrics and aftermarket hardware (all black for aesthetic purposes)
I don't use tone knobs so I got rid of them, 2 volumes and a 3 way switch, no mucking around! I moved the input jack to the side like a Tele just to clean the look up a bit as well.

I died the fretboard black and shot the body and neck in flat black along with a little gloss white highlight around the headstock.

Shee-yit!
That is one really nasty, sleek & sexy SG in all respects.
I just love the simplifications you've done to declutter things. The custom headstock is also perfect IMO. Recessed jack is just the berries too.
Been toying with doing one of these kits - now I'm getting more determined!

Hey dudes and dudettes,

Here is my offering for the June GOTM. Will post the pictures in a separate comment (For some reason it isnt letting me post them in this comment).

Stock standard TL-1 build with the only change being to the scratch plate as you can see. Pretty happy with this as its my first build. Along the way I learnt how to solder completely from scratch and do a decent setup.

The parts which came with the build are of quite a high quality and the neck profile is absolutely spot on to what a great telecaster should have!

If you're interested to see how it sounds, check out some sound clips I posted on the other thread :)

looks great Danger, colours look excellent. Got to be happy with this for a first build.
Maybe next build (there will be one) spend more time shaping the headstock to get some smoother lines.

Yeah my sentiments exactly in regards to the headstock, it just looks a tad unfinished, luckily it's over shadowed by that amazing blue with the beautiful grain offset with the pickguard and the chrome accents, I fricken love it!!

Hey guys,

Thanks all for your kind words!
Whilst it is true that more time could have been put into shaping the headstock, I kinda enjoy the unfinished look of it. Looks aside however, the guitar plays very well and to me thats the most important thing :)

Cheers guys!

Wokkaboy - Thanks dude :) I get what you mean about the headstock though, maybe ill sort that out in the not too distant future :)
Well, it's not technically a FULL pitbull guitars kit.. But... I bought a paisley tele body the other week which im going to put a pitbull neck on and turn into another Tele! So once the new shipment of necks come in, im going to be right on that :)

wokkaboy
22-05-2014, 03:08 AM
sounds cool DM the paisley tele, so the tele body you bought is already painted ? You are turning into a real tele freak, not as bad as Ads though ! haha :)

TheDangerMan
22-05-2014, 03:50 AM
Yeah it is pre-painted and glossed up! Just waiting on the neck and other bits and bobs to get here so I can start my build plan.
Yeah I must admit, I am a fan of the Telecaster. I have played many guitars in my short time as a guitarist and I always seem to end up with a tele in my hands!

Hi guys
Would like to enter my new build "Ice Fan"... A lot of planning and messing around with different techniques to build this one - but it turned out better than I expected. The mirror is 3mm Acrylic with each 'Shattered' piece cut out individually by a scroll saw then place in the cavity i created by using a Pearl binding. After all the pieces were glued in I used a black silicon based grout to fill in the gaps between each piece. I replaced the black tuning pegs with Pearl ones just to tie it in. Ive been a Ace frehley/ KISS fan for around 30years so this is something special too me --- Who knows a "Smoking" Gibson Les Paul with 3 pickups may be next in line !!

Yeah, I know, it's been said before, but I sure am glad I'm not having to pick a winner out of this lot. A fantastic collection of guitars built by 'regular' people. I am constantly amazed by what can be done. And this is in no small part by the contribution of everyone on the forum who offers advice and knowledge. Thanks to all of you, especially DB and Gav (listed alphabetically not in order of importance).
But not to take anything away from the entrants. Excellent work guys. All the best!

Thanks for the entries everyone, after a slow start we ended up with 7 entries, which is on par for previous months.

Another very tough month to judge. It's going to come down to picking up small mistakes (if there are any!) and the personal preferences of the judges.

July GOTM is now open.

And the winner is...

Thanks to our Judges for their efforts in another very tough round.

In third place for June Guitar of the Month...

Trevor's IC-1 "Ice Fan"

"Wow! another awesome build and worthy of a podium finish. Headstock is sensational. Putting the mirror back together must have been quite a task."

"Amazing attention to detail and coming up with a stunning guitar."

"A brilliant tribute to Kiss this axe is a very good replica. Must have been hard work getting all the mirror cut, glued and grouted, I think you would be rock and rolling all night with this cool axe."

There was only 0.1 point separating 1st and 2nd this month.

In second place, our perennial podium placer, Jarrod and his ES-1G he made for Vicki.

"Another well finished build Jarrod and an axe your wife must be proud of. Well worth entering this axe has a classic burst that makes this model stand out in the crowd."

"Impeccable presentation, attention to detail and gloss... Wow!"

"Jarrod's paint work is brilliant as always. The burst is sensational and I haven't seen him in the wiring rehab clinic so he must have the patience of Job or is brilliant at wiring too!"

And, the Pit Bull Gull Guitars June 2014 Guitar of the Month goes to...

Bargeloob's LP-1 "Blacktop"

"I loved this, desired this, from the first time I saw it. Utterly beautiful and will grace the PBG front page for only one month."

"Fantastic work It just looks great.Beautiful finish."

"Very sleek, really well thought out colour scheme and beautifully executed. Extra half point for including the Dog in the pics :)"

Ooh. I've been waiting for this post. Honestly, I reckon anyone could've won this month, they were all great in their own style. So congrats to Bargie first of all and and strong 'hurrah' to the rest of you.
Jarrod, I know you didn't win this time so if you want to try again with another guitar for Vicki I am happy to take that one off your hands. Sorry Vicki, I just love those jazz guitars!

Well done Barge...welcome to the fraternity!
Knew you had a winner on your hands from the moment I laid eyes on the finished product.
There is real class and beauty in the "Blacktops" simplicity. Congrats.

Big congrats also to Jarrod and Trevor. That ES of yours Jarrod is awesome and oozes the class and high quality that you consistently put out. Trevor, the patience you must have really paid off, what a work-of-art.

Well done all entrants...another great month!

Congratulations Bargeloobs on the win, I thought once you entered the blacktop it was going to take something amazing to beat it ! Big congratulations to Jarrod and Trevor for getting on the podium. I'm glad I'm not judging next month. I could hardly split all the entries were all a very high standard.
Enjoy having your LP on the home page for a month Barge ! Thoroughly deserved win indeed
