Wow Jarrod! I gotta be honest with you, I'm not usually a big fan of black bursts, but this one looks sensational. The feathering out towards the center just looks amazing. You made the right decision here man. With the bursting front and the black back and sides - I love it!

cheers,
Gav.

Gorgeous! Just stunning!

Brendan
06-05-2014, 01:46 PM
You may not like it, but I do! I'd be flipping between a satin and high gloss finish on it though!

Mmmm.... you got me thinking now Brendan

awesome burst Jarrod, those colour look excellent, as Brendan said, that looks ready for clear coats !\\
So is that been done with your air paint gun ?
You somehow managed a double post for this thread !

That is outrageously hot. You are getting too hard on yourself Jarrod.

jarrod
07-05-2014, 02:17 AM
Na it was ragged on Wokks. I bought this for a client but forgetting she wanted all the correct "G" woods so I sourced one from else where for her and kept this myself. I'm just not really a sunburst kind of guy , I don't mind black shadow around the outside but this is a little too much burst for my personal liking but hey It may grow on me. I have done a TLA for a client the same and wondered how it would go on a bigger canvas.

I think once it has some clear on it Jarrod it will grow on you. Nice job mate, love the thick blend on the bottom front edge. How did you clean the binding, steel wool or scrape it off ?

jarrod
07-05-2014, 03:25 AM
masked it then scraped what was left. Grrrrrr horrible job , might train the wife to do those jobs as I think she wants this one.

wokkaboy
07-05-2014, 03:56 AM
yer I could imagine taping off the binding would have been a hard task. Good idea, give the missus the sanding and scraping jobs !

"Gone vintage Gibbo with this one. Not sure I like it now."

That burst looks wicked, I love those dark classic tones. What's the plans for the finish?

jarrod
07-05-2014, 07:34 AM
Hey bargeloobs , It'll be Acrylic but Brendans gone and thrown a spanner in the works on a matt look rather then shine so i'm really thinking now

bargeloobs
07-05-2014, 07:37 AM
Personally I don't think a matt would do that burst justice but ehhh, what do I know.

jarrod
07-05-2014, 07:41 AM
you may be right there

wokkaboy
07-05-2014, 07:49 AM
yer I agree with Bargeloobs, think a burst should have a gloss finish

bargeloobs
07-05-2014, 08:06 AM
Imagine a high gloss top with matt back and sides...now that would be sick!

robin
07-05-2014, 09:22 AM
Hey Jarrod, I'm not a big fan of bursts either, but that looks sensational. One of your trademark gloss finishes on that will look amazing.

The SG-1 I did had the same colour burst and I did a satin finish on it. I was really pleased with how it turned out, but I reckon your ES would look good either way.

Well now really regretting telling the wife she can have this one for her three chords she can play, after the third clear coat she decides it is too dark. She wanted the center more yellow and a little less black around the edges. After a few carefully chosen words I proceeded to take the clear coats off the front and rub it back. She is now all happy again. "Wife free to good home comes with ES Guitar"

Hah yeah Wokka, life is getting in the way a bit at the moment! I try and have a look in here when I get the chance, but the little man takes up a lot of my time. Still hoping to free up some time and cash soon to get another build going, but funds are a bit tight at the moment with the wife not back to full time work yet :?

The binding against that finish looks killer!

Question... I see you put the strap pin on the horn, did you put anything inside to screw it into or is it just into the timber that was already there? I want to put the there on my ES and have been trying to figure out the best way around it.

Really apreciate your kind words guy's. Mick screw hole was injected with epoxy resin and grease on the screw and then held at the upside down positon so the glue runs around the screw.
