What's everyone running in between their guitar and amp?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v701/roofdrop/stompland_zps60bd9b8a.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/roofdrop/media/stompland_zps60bd9b8a.jpg.html)

My pedal chain starts off with the Slash Wah pedal, it's cool because is has a little distortion button that you can turn on and off while the wah is on for some extra noise. From there it's into the smooth wall of sound that is the big muff and when that's too much fuzz (not actually a thing) we head into the Green Rhino overdrive for some dirt. After all that we're overdue for a noisegate (the Boss) and it's onto the acoustic stimulator, more often used for some sweet earthy reverb. Last but not least is the delay pedal... this thing has lots of positions for nob twiddling and dialing in some nice flourishes. The reverse delay and modulating are my go to settings on this one.

the big ol' box in the middle is the channel switcher for the amp, channel 1 is super clean Fender blackface tone and channel 2 is tear your face off metal tone. There are preset amp effects for each channel as well (chorus/flange/more delay/tremelo ect)

well.... that's about it, besides being really keen to get a phaser when funds allow it I've got enough to compliment all the styles I like to play.

Can I just say there should be more of these threads, because effect pedal order is such a contentious subject that we need more input.

FWIW my rig runs:

Guitar (Tele, no surprise), Tuner GFS GFT90, Dunlop Cry Baby Wah, Boss OD-3 Overdrive, GFS BluesDrive Classic, GFS Pro Chorus, GFS Pro Delay. Amp.

Awesome thread.

I used to just use my Boss ME-70 for gigs as it was too easy to set up and I had presets for different songs.

Though now I'm starting to build up my stompbox collection.

My chain goes like this: Guitar > Cry Baby > Mooer Hustle drive(OCD clone)> Sans-Amp GT2 > Wasabi delay > Fender Blues Jr. Ruining through a 2x12 cab with Celestion G12-65's.

I'm just after a Trem to complete the chain. Tossing up between the Moog MF Trem or the Joyo Trem. Depending on my budget. First though I need to fix my cry baby that just decided to stop working the other week. I rang a few places to get a quote on repairing it and they quoted between $110- $180. I could just go and buy a new one for that money so it looks like I'm goona have to try myself to fix it.

All that said, most of the time I prefer to just plug straight in to the amp.

That debate is as age old as set neck/bolt on or Gibson/Fender ect

It seems to work for me but I run the guitar into all the fuzzy stuff, then into the gate and place all the modulating effects at the end of the chain.

My current rig - Bass (JB-4 / PB-4 / VP-4 soon) - amp. Why tamper with perfection...

Fretworn
18-04-2014, 02:23 AM
Homemade A/B box (switches between effects and Boss tuner) -> Barber LTD -> Morrison Big Fluff (which I think might be dying) -> Boss Overdrive/Distortion -> Behringer Preamp/Boost -> Boss Super Chorus -> MXR Phase 90 -> Boss DD5 with homemade tap tempo switch -> Fender FM65 amp.

Yes, I run a solid state amp, but I needed it to be light and able to handle getting thrown in and out of cars, or carried on a train without issues. Tubes wouldn't have cut it. I have a Dunlop Crybaby, but it isn't on the board, and doesn't get taken out much.

I haven't got any photos but I used to run quite a few boss/digitech pedals like metalmaster, chorus, delay, octaver but these days my amp head is digital and has 100 pre-programmed channels that can be edited, its a Fender Mustang V head and even has PC software for easy editing, I haven't got around to playing with the sounds much yet, too busy in the workshop. I've also got a Digitech RP150 effects unit has some cool sounds and a basic drum machine. And like most others I got a dunlop cry baby wah that I haven't used for ages, need to dust it off one day !
I got 2 amps to play through so nothing beats stereo amps !
I'm impressed with everyone else's range of effects !

And this is my setup (it goes from right to left).
TC Helicon Harmony G-XT - Tube Magnum real tube distortion - DigiTech TimeBender Delay - Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb - Boss RC-2 Loop Station.

NOTE: as soon as I get off my bum and put the homemade valve pedal into a box I'll use that instead of the Tube Magnum cos it's less intense.

Here's my rig!

So I have Amp - Boss ME - Mooer Chorus - Joyo Flanger - Mooer delay (Now gone) - Pigtronix fat Drive - Dangelectro T Bone distortion - Guitar

I have a joyo power supply as well, which I have to say, is absolutely brilliant for 65 dollars brand new

I used to be only a Boss Multi man but ive been experimenting with pedals of late and these seem to go well with the sorta stuff I play both as a cover band guitarist and as an original music guitarist

Stomp pedals.

Another build it yourself project for me. My first is a tube screamer TS808 modified with extra boost. Mind you I just picked up a Zoom pedal for $60 which with the build in tuner and a stack of amp models and pedal models is a bargain.

Knocked up a rig out of pine, made some custom patch cables, powered off a one-spot power supply.

The wah is buggered atm, and I stole my buddy's space echo to fill some space.

TS rocks. I love it. The zoom struggles to produce a sound like it. You can have a listen to it on the video/audio area.

Happy to help with building advice if you want to build one. Can provide suppliers of bits, and give soldering/wiring advice.

Or I can build one and sell it?

Thread resurrection!

Guitar Rig:
So, the Biyang Baby Boom Mad Driver is just about my favourite pedal, not least because it's cheap! Check it out here: http://www.cheaperpedals.com/products/biyang-mad-driver-od-10-pedal

My motto is dirt before delay, so the last time I had the pedal board together it went like this: tuner > transparent booster (buffers and allows single coils to volume match humbuckers) > Cry Baby Wah (usually cocked half open) > Baby Boom (OD) > Boss DS-1 > Zoom G1nx Multi Pedal (great for presets for gigs) > MXR Phaser > cheap old chorus > TC Electronics Flashback (the little blue one) > Joyo EQ Pedal > DI Box > SoundDesk + Peavey Vypyr/Peavey Mace/Randall RM100KH (depending on where I was playing, what I could be bothered carrying).

Explanations: Yes, that's a tubescreamer clone feeding the famous Boss DS1 distortion pedal. They do really different things, and if you wanna get super filthy, turn both on \m/. You need to buffer a chain that long, and yes it was a little silly, but back then I was gigging a lot, and you need those tools sometimes. The Zoom G1nx is a great little tool at the price, and you can preset all your favourite sounds; I use the first ten as various amp and pedal modelers that work well with the other effects, and then have thirty signature sounds that get used without anything else for particular covers. The TC Flashback has dotted eighth delay for U2 sounds or just making yourself sound really good. An EQ lets you adjust the overall sound or just get a clean boost, depending on what a gig calls for.

Here's a top tip: use a good DI and you can feed the venue's sound system as well as your amp, and get a great mix (with the right sound guy). Amp wise, the Vypyr sounds near enough to the AC30 and the Fender Twin/Deluxe that you don't need to drop thousands on them (no one in a pub will hear the difference anyway); the Peavey Mace is a massive beast of a thing, capable of running the clean channel into the lead channel and screaming with valves, but it weighs a ton (is a combo); the Randall is the Kirk Hammett signature that our other guitarist ran through two 4x12 cabs, and sometimes we'd swap depending on what songs needed what... it is epic and loud.

Bass Rig:
Bass > Sansamp > Hartke HA1200 & 4x10 cab. Damn that sansamp might be all you ever need.

You know, ever since getting decent tube amps, I've never run more than an overdrive pedal, and I haven't even used one of those in years, ever since I had the distortion channel of my Seymour Duncan Convertible 60 tweaked by a local amp guru. The 15w all tube combo I picked up for my wife a few years back gets great tone straight from the guitar too. I have been wondering lately about picking up an eq pedal to use as a mid boost for lead work though. Maybe I just need to dig out my overdrive pedals, I'm sure one of them has a 3 band eq that might do the trick (perhaps the danelectro overdrive from memory)?

I don't pay live anymore but when I did I used a late 70's Cry Baby Wah which finally just died completely. It was the only wah pedal I ever owned.
The rest of my pedals were all T.C Electronics.

http://www.tcelectronic.com/mojomojo-overdrive/

http://www.tcelectronic.com/spark-booster/

http://www.tcelectronic.com/polytune-2/

If I ever go back on stage they will still be the only pedals I'd use. I just loved them. Small so my pedal board wasn't huge. Tey didn't cost an arm and a leg like some boutique pedals do.
Right now for recording I'm looking at several different processors. The problem is they all have WAYYY too much to them. Much more then I will ever need or use. All I need is an amp modeler, flange, chorus, delay, overdrive and a wah.

Here is mine.
From guitar > tu2 tuner> 70s crybaby> mt2 metalzone > od1 > mi audio blue boy > joyo distortion > ds1 > ph2 > dano flanger > dd7 with a home made tap tempo built into a tuna can into a sovtek MIG 50 head, Marshall 1922 2x12 cab. Pedals are run of a joyo brick, bullet proof and cheap, and all housed in a ebay special case. I've just recently gotten hold of a 6505+ 2x12 so for that amp I'll run a dd7 and ts808 through it and leave it be. Or I could aby both rigs and slay!

Electroharmonix Tone Tattoo. I was in the market for a chorus pedal and had pretty much decided on a Small Clone when this popped up on Gumtree. It's three pedals in one with a few extras, a Metal Muff with an added noise gate and mid scoop, a Neo Clone and a Memory Toy with an extra gain stage. And it rules. Nice, gritty fuzz, lush chorus and sweet as funk analogue delay. This guy, plus a tuner and a compressor would make up a kick ass little pedalboard.

Around the $350 mark new, I think. Pretty expensive, but I got a deal I couldn't pass up, only a little more than I was planning on spending on a chorus.

My intended 'cheap' pedalboard has ended up being worth a s#!tload of money. The crappy compressor pedal I have now looks very out of place.

Sounds awesome indeed! I've been looking at getting the Fredric Effects Green Russian (big muff clone) which is damn awesome and also smaller than the muff!
