Scott, there will be a few popular colours to start with, but the range will grow organically, hopefully with everyone's input on here.

I've seen some sample works up close and, just WOW! I'm really excited about this and very happy for DB, I really think it was something he was put on this earth to do. Not only is he an amazing Luthier, but he has a background in colour design. The perfect credentials to pull off a bold move like this.

I really do hope everyone on here gets behind the product and, who knows, it could go global for DB.

good that the news is out on the forum, roll on Dingotone, I've seen some in the flesh and it looks promising !
I've been lucky enough to try the blue and the orange stains - orange was used in my tobacco strat burst (as shown in my avatar pic) and I'm impressed !

DB, what colours do you have already? I would have thought that we definitely need a replacement for surfer girl - a seafoam green in fact. From what I could gather from the forum builds, it was one of the most popular colours for strats. Not surprising really.

cheers,
Gav.

dingobass
14-04-2014, 01:02 PM
Thanks for that input Gav.
"solid" colours are currently in the R&D stage, but I will take heed to your suggestion re: sea foam green.

Currently I have Black Stump, Tarkine green, Uluru red, Karijini red, Coolangatta gold, Bondi blue and a yet to be named colour ready for the big launch day ;)

yes I got to see some of the colours 1st hand on Friday at DB's man cave and was lucky to have a play on the fretless Riccy, and it plays and looks sweet - he has to disassemble it for clear coats.
The colours look better in the flesh, hard to get an acurate representation of the colour on camera/PC screen

Yes DB! As I worked today putting Wudtone top coats on my neck, I suddenly realised that it would be very hard to do without. I've become addicted to Wudtone as a neck finisher. Do you have neck finish in the works? one of *the* most important elements in my books. Colour isn't important - rather the silky smoothh finish you achieve.

cheers,
Gav.

dingobass
15-04-2014, 09:08 AM
Gavmeister, there is a clear Dingotone for those that will want it :)

this is a taste of Dingotone orange stain (not sure if he's got a name yet) and it may be what DB has used in the centre of the ash ST burst (although it looks more yellow than orange).
This is on a ST-1 basswood, I stained it with jarrah stain and rubbed it back first, then this is one deep coat of Dingotone orange.
The tobacco ash strat I previously build (in my photo avatar) the centre of the burst was DT orange as well.
So DB does this lift the booze ban for me for the next 2 weeks in the naughty room ?

Happy to take a get out of Naughty Romm card too.

dingobass

Hahahaha! You are safe.. I let everyone out for the Easter break :)...... oops... forgot to unlock the door.... Oh well, it's the thought that counts....

The Dingotone Guitar Wax will be in the post on Tuesday. It has been formulated to use on fingerboards as well as on the body as a general timber nourisher and body finish protector.

NSW Blackbutt is a very hard timber so it will be interesting to find out how it sounds. I have heavily chambered the body to drasticaly reduce the weight.

This chunk of Quited BB just had to come home with me from my timber suppliers... can you believe it was a return because it had "too much figure"? WTF!?
It is the first time I have seen BB with this much of a quilt, and this is one of the plainer chunks I will be able to get out of the length :)

Analyst69
21-04-2014, 02:12 PM
Was really quite taken with the quilt around the edges. Never heard of the idea that timber has too much figure...now that makes no sense at all.

I've got three yet to be started pitbull kits here, but think the Dingotone wax is going to have to go on the TL1TH kit....should be great on that neck :)

Feeling pretty privileged to have received Dingotone Guitar Wax today.

I plan to use it on my thinline tele neck.

Being a little uneducated on the topics of oils and waxes, is it dumb of me to ask if it is oil based (has some bearing on what I will do with my decals)?

Thanks again DB for sending this one out, really appreciate it.

It smells good too :)

dingobass

Hey Analyst, The Guitar wax is a blend of oils and wax.
I would put any decals on before applying the wax.

Bman, At the moment the top coat will only be available in gloss, but you can lightly buff it with 0000 steel wool to achieve a satin finish.

Analyst69
03-05-2014, 11:54 AM
Thanks DB

The decals I have are on a white background that goes clear after oils are applied, so I expect it will work then. Certainly will put decals on first.

dingobass

Wont be too long now, VH.

As with all new products, just when you think you are ready to roll you realise that there are a few boring paperwork type things to do...

Also, I need to be absolutley certain that the finish gloss coat is correctly formulated.

In the meantime, here is another colour to whet your appetites.

I present, Atherton Amethyst...

This body has two coats of Stain coat and four coats of the intensifying coat.. Will leave it for a few days to cure before applying the Finish Gloss coats.
The cool damp weather here in Perth is slowing drytimes :(

Beautiful colour that DB.

I'm about to launch into using the tub of Dingotone Neck finish on my HB4 (just had to test how the decals reacted to it and can confirm all is good).

Look forward to Dingotone products being listed on the site.

Cheers

Darren

Been busy working on the Dingotone perfecting the top coat... Not long now before it is ready to roll 8-)

That finish is insane, it looks like marble!

Man... I love blue guitars (especially Rickies). And I love big fat hollowbody jazz machines too. This is going to be a really hot, cool jazzer. I'd even swap my '77 Keith Richards Custom Tele for it! Maybe.

looks awesome DB, looks like the bondi blue has improved from the early batches you did.

Well, looks like my build career must go on indefinitely.

I simply MUST use these finishes at some point.

DB, you are a genius. ;)

Hey DB, I just received my tub of DingoTone Wax which I plan on using on a bare Tele neck, but I'm also half way through a Riccy bass build on which I've already used a couple of Feast & Watson stains, is it possible to apply the Wax over those stains as a sort of sealer? Or is it only good for bare wood? Cheers

Hey Matt, no problems using it over any finish :)

Its finally here!! Just a query though, why does the colourless have a stain and intensifying coat?? Isnt it just supposed to be colourless??

Good point.. We decided to run with generic names for the three parts to the finish.
The stain coat is also a foundation for the intensifying coat as it contains a different blend of oils and waxes to form a good base.
