I've got a stack of guitar bodies that I got for a song and since I had a small snag with my RC-1, I started this. In every painters career there comes a time to put a Union Jack on something, ,mine will be a strat body. These pictures are after wood prep. I sealed the wood with PU clear, then I masked, drew the rippled flag and cut it out. I use airbrush paint, it works well and it's acrylic. I didn't show it in the pictures, I left the sides of the body natural wood.

I liked the simple stencil look but, not special at all. I didn't want complicated, just old looking, I was going to give it shreds on the outside but, liked what I was seeing and just aged it. Final picture is what I'm going for with yellow maple neck.

Great work Johnny. I'm really a fan of Union Jack guitars and you've done an amazing job with yours. Outstanding. Can you post the finished guitar when it's assembled?

Cheers,
Gav.

That's very cool indeed.

I particularly like the flag being "rippled" which I reckon gives the body a look of real fluidity.
Must get my AB skills up to your level one day soon.
Do you use Createx acrylics in your airbrush?

Gav, I definitely will, thanks. Max, it's Createx
Auto Air, the range has amazing colours and FX.

I love this type of stuff Johnny....nice air brushing skills.
Sadly I never really learnt air brushing, just brush work, back when signwriters used brushes.
Mind you, photoshop is now my brush.
Anyhow, Keep up the good work...its looking good.

Cheers
Andy

Fantastic workmanship Johnny, I love it. Just a shame that a Strat scratch plate is so big, it hides a lot of your AB skills.

wow Johnny that is amazing, your air brush skills are excellent, beautiful finish and love the gloss level even on the fingerboard. Cool name too Chronicaster !
I agree with Robin its a pity too much of the flag is covered, hope you build one without a pickguard.
Was this a kit from another supplier or is it strat your have re-done ?

Definitely the best UJ guitar I've ever seen. Didn't realise you were doing the back as well and with that side trim - it's just outstanding.
Pete Townsend & Co would kill for this one . . .

thanks guys! Wokka: this was a piece-meal guitar I built from a buddies family guitar business (no longer in business)I'm going to do some bodies to sell on e-bay. I would buy a kit from Pitbull again (but need to make a bit of coin, first) That reminds Adam, Do you sell LP set necks? I only saw the bolt-on on the website.
MAX: HAHA. do you have their #?

wow Johnny I'm blown away that you have built this axe as well as an awesome finish.
There are 4 LP models with set neck FYI
LP-1 flame maple cap
LP-1M - mahogany body with flame cap
LP-1SS - spalted maple cap with set neck
LPA-1 - ash body with ash veneer

surely one of these models will take your fancy !

johnnychronic

Cheers Wokka but I have 4 LP style bodies already, 2 with double B/W binding that I might just keep for myself and I'll need necks.

And YES! They all suit my fancy. I'll have to sell some of these first.

I have to agree with everything said, Johhny. It's gorgeous. To me it looks like you've captured the reflection of a Union Jack in a pond where a stone has been dropped. It's almost like a ripple. Beautiful, man.
