HI GUYS a new colour and useful tip on using pigment based kits especially if you want an even solid colour.
Here is a guitar that is very nearly solid colour after just two base coats.

It is done in a new colour we are about to release called Lady Teal. Very classy, especially with cream plastics, rosewood boards. The kit is a dye and pigment kit and as with all other dye and pigment kits it will eventually solid colour with enough coats . There is technique that can help you in that endeavour. Basically to solid colour you need to get enough of the pigment onto the wood.
This Lady Teal has been applied onto a nice 3lb 2oz, single piece swamp ash sanded 180 and then a final pass with fresh 240 grit. As you can see there is excellent and even coverage of quite a dark colour and after only two base coats.
The finish is applied around the edges circled onto the top surface with a bit of pressure. Once the top is fully coated and wet, with a little bit of excess here and there, the rag is then loosely slapped onto the finish as if you were stippling with a brush. This helps to leave a slightly thicker coating that is also nice and even. Once you have finished slapping with the rag, it may look a bit orange peel like but as the product cures it self levels and so this disappears within a couple of hours. After the first coat has cured overnight , very very lightly use a bit of fine steel wool just to remove any high dust spots. You really don't want to smooth it leave feeling matt rough and use the same technique to apply a second coat in the same way. After that second coat then level a little with fine steel wool and apply 3rd / 4th base thinly , in this case we are adding some silver highlights. and I will share when finished.
kind regards

Cheers for the tips Andy. That new colour is fantastic. I wonder what a burst with T- bird and lady teal would look like.
