My JM-1 kit arrived today! Couldn't be happier- for the price it's great quality. there's a few issues, i've highlighted in this http://imgur.com/a/6zIk6 album, but none of them are really a big problem- nothing some sanding won't fix!

The plan is Azure Lagoon blue- not sure if I'll stick with the pickguard or paint it/replace it. I'll leave that decision till I get the colour on.

I'm off to the gold coast for a couple of days this arvo, but when I get back, it's sanding time!

Ouch! They must of had a blunt bit when they shaped that one. And you'll probably need a wire brush to help get rid of all that glue. Should be worth it when you've done the hard yards on it, though.

Hi Nick. Welcome.
Looks like you'll have a bit of a sand-a-thon when you get back. There are a few glitches in there with minor dings and glue spots.
I built one of these a few months ago and I love it. I also had problems with the bridge post holes in that they weren't deep enough, so check that before you bang the posts in.
I hope you enjoy your build and please update often.
Cheers

Hey Nick,
Looking forward to your build. I really like the look of the JM-1, a very classy looking design. That sucks about the few dings in the wood but as you said it's nothing some (alot!) of sanding and a wire brush won't fix. It would be worth checking out Lawry's build diary for the JM-1 he did. There aren't too many on the forums so would be good to see how they can turn out to give you some inspiration and tips.

Look forward to more posts!

Cheers
Tim

Nick,
welcome along. Hope the build goes well. Sorry to hear about the glue and other issues, but there's some good stuff on how to deal with those issues in the how to build your guitar post.

Overall though, good luck and I hope you have a ball!

Quite a few glue issues there, take your time and get rid of them and you will end up with an axe to be proud of.

After a pretty mental couple of weeks, including going to two shows, two birthdays, and a spontaneous trip up the coast, I've finally had a chance to get back to the guitar.

Deep Colour is on, and looking great! Glue problems were a matter of a s**tload of sanding, and a wire brush, and although I may have missed the 'less is more' memo re the deep colour, I'm happy with where the guitar is at the moment.

Coming up very nicely, Nick. The Wudtone and pick guard will set each other off very nicely.

Cheers Tim and Lawry! I was a little concerned about the pickguard colour initially, but after holding it up to the guitar with the deep colour, I couldn't be happier. Now I'm stuck reading everyone else's build threads waiting to put on my next coat- I'm still blown away by the quality of the kits everyone is putting together!
