Yep ... its on again!

I don't know if anyone from the PBG community made it to last year's Fender Roadshow but it really was an awesome evening ... some great muso's making up "the band", lots of very interesting information and you got see, hear (and even play) all the latest offerings from Fender (instruments, amps, etc.) ... and best of all, its free! (and you might even score yourself the free Fender Accoustic giveaway!)

For anyone who wants to attend this industry event, here's the site to register at to make sure you get a seat (there's no "just turning up" on the night)

haha sorry fellas that's not me in my profile pic - that's a fella called Devin Townsend (from the Strapping Young Lad era).

Funnily enough, here is a pic of me recently with The Dev, so if you see me on the night say a hoi hoi

Devin sure looks a lot saner since he lost the skullet.

Ahh yes the skullet, no one rocked the skullet like Dev ;)

thanks for clearing that up Matt, now I know what you look like will be able to spot you on the night. Where was the photo taken with Devin ?
Few months ago someone posted some youtube vids with Devin doing a factory tour

Yeh my goatee is only really short at the moment but you get the idea. Photo was taken a few months back after Devin's show at Metropolis Fremantle

Yeah great show, great mix of songs and a bit of comedy to boot, getting a pic with him was a great bonus. I've seen him 4 times and he's always very willing to meet and greet afterwards. He's very aware that it's his fans that make it happen so he always takes the time to shake a hand and take a pic.

A friend and I got along to the roadshow in Canberra tonight. Guitar-porn-o-rama. A little too much yakkin' and not enough playing, but then, they've gotta talk about the guitars, so no biggie. Excellent playing, and the mix wasn't over-loud, so a very cool night all up. A fairly young bloke won the giveaway acoustic, and nobody in the crowd begrudged him that.

Thanks to Scott for pointing me at this - had great fun!

A few more notes on the Roadshow, now that I'm properly awake.

Being the 60th Anniversary of the Stratocaster, there was a very heavy Strat emphasis on the whole evening. Not a whole lot of Tele action, though what there was, was appreciated. The show opened with a medley of classic Strat riffs, so very well played by the guys.

The basses also got a nice little spotlight, which was satisfying for the apparently 30% of the audience who put their hands up to be identified as bassists!

Very interesting was the reissue Starcaster (that's the black semi-hollow thing at front right of the general pic above). There was a little gentle ribbing about the axe-like treatment of the headstock - here's a close-up.

But that gives me an idea for a kick-ass headstock for a future project - the Buffy axe!

@Glenn - it'd have to be a Warlock - DB's favourite - I know - he's been saving the sample build to last!

Yeah not sure what our movements on the night will be yet, but I think the wife and I will head over to the newly refurbished National Hotel or maybe the SAil & Anchor for a beer and bite to eat beforehand then head back over to the fly by night club. Might see you there if I can pick out the face(s)

A top night, for those yet to go - well worth it, some great gearhead type chat, and very well played music. Big strat theme as mentioned, but even demoed MIM Strats all the way up to Custom Shop wonders. Not enough Tele action, but great fun night

was a fun night at the Perth roadshow, as said before was very weighted toward the strat's 60th year anniversary but the Greg Koch band were pretty tight and had a good sound. Here's a sample of some of the axes on display. Greg's favourite axe was the 1st pic the relic'd 1956 re-issue. Some cool ideas they had such as USB port on some models to record or plug into ipod or ipads, and talk of a card that can be replaced that changes the wiring configuration instead of physically changing the wiring.
Some very nice custom guitars and basses.
I took some gopro footage of the band so I'll find the best video and upload it to youtube and share the link in the next day or 2
Also caught up with MetalMatt and BassGuy.

Yep great night and great to catch up with the guys. Some really nice stuff on show and ALL of it sounded sweet. One of my goals in this 60th Anniversary year is to purchase my first (real ;) ) sunburst American Fender Stratocaster, and last night just made me want one more!
