Hi all, I received the TL-1TH kit yesterday and am happy with the lack of filler/cracks and appears to have little or no glue near the binding, I've never owned (or played) a Telecaster guitar in the 23+ years I've been playing (don't send me to the naughty corner Adam ! haha)
Adam needs to stop having these Sunday specials I am too weak to resist a bargain.
I have many wudtone colours to choose from so I'm putting it out there to the community to suggest colours for top and bottom/sides:
golden rod, azure lagoon, burning sun, cherry flamenco, hot auburn, amaranthine. Some of these colours are a bit low but the pickguard takes up a fair bit of the top so should have enough in all those colours and I've given ama a good kaning lately so won't use that.
Open to suggestions on colours please forumites ?

I reckon Azure Lagoon would go well with the pearloid pickguard. Personally, I would love to try and replicate one these bad boys.

Nice Wokka. I would also love one of these kits. From the colours you listed, I would go with hot auburn with gold hardware.

cheers,
Gav.

Cheers for your input Pablo and Gav, that pic of the Tele looks amazing Pablo
I am swaying toward azure top and will see what matches sides/bottom. My ash strat is in azure and dark green and blue is my favorite colour.
Gold hardware could be a good option Gav, may have to look online for some !!

I ended up staining the top azure after a coat of white left over from a surfer girl kit to acentuate the grain. Early days but will experiment more

That's going to look really nice Woks.

Like you, my TL-1TH was my first ever Tele. And although not your classic Tele configuration it still sounds great with all standard parts. Very nice for those warmer, rounded Jazz/Blues tones.

Now you'll have to get a real Tele kit to complete the collection. I know I did ;)

I think I'm going to have to stop looking at your posts Wokka. You obviously have too much time and too much fun. They're all looking great.
Now that I've almost finished the Matriarch I'm going to have to stop for a while cos I don't have a shed (all builds have been on the back deck) and Mackay is jumping headlong into the wet season. So I'm gonna have to wait till the seasons over. Maybe I will keep an eye on you and consider these as my pseudo builds. Just don't rub it in!

Hi, got a 2nd coat of azure on the top and tried out burning sun on the sides/back, will give it another coat to see if I like the colour blend, might be too orange for the blue top but it may grow on me.
Also included in the first pic is the 2nd marri wall clock Popeye sanded and stained yesterday and cut a veneer to cover the mechanism

Looks neat Woks, I feel like a few Tele kits myself, Strats mess with my playing style way too much IMO

The colours look great Wokka. You've also brought out some pretty cool grain on the top. Reckon this is going to look spectacular.

Here's a closeup of the camphor veneer on the headstock, I've since sanded all the glue at the bottom of the headstock near the nut

cheers Gav, I think I'm going to glue some more veneer on near the nut, the veneer split and when I sanded it its way to small and not covering enough of the full headstock, will try and find time this weekend

Got to agree with Gav, the Burning Sun/Azure combo looks pretty nice. The back & neck are really coming up beautifully.
Pity about the veneer screwing up, I think it's a great idea, I'm interested to see you overcome the problem.

BTW: you might want to get some tuning pegs for that Hills Hoist . . .

finally got around to gluing another piece of camphor veneer on the headstock, worked out pretty good, got a coat of azure over it, also got another coat of azure on the body cap, will get another coat of burning sun on neck and body back/sides and should be ready to start clearing, I'll post some pics later tonight

Wokka I noticed that the colour on the face of the body is really quite thin. Is that a mixture of Azure Lagoon and T-Bird?

wokkaboy
26-12-2013, 02:20 PM
The cap is maple I think so doesn't take the colour of the wudtone that well. It's about five coats of azure lagoon

Looks great Wokka! The colour in the 'down the neck' shot reminds me of a Danelectro without the sparkles. Very nice.

here's 2 better daylight pics. Still need to do a wiring mod. Need to update the wiring diagram on the website, I'll let Brendan know what needs changing.
Then setup and enjoy !

Whoa - looking great now.
The front exudes lots of character and the back oozes classic class, methinks.
Let's hope it chunks out sound to match . . .

Where do you display all those axes?

Do you breed Euphorbias?

Looking spectacular Wokka. The scratchplate and pickups just complete the look. I really like how the headstock veneer has come up. It's got that kinda shade effect going on. All class. Would love to hear how she sounds..

cheers,
Gav.

Wokks - happy for feedback on the diagrams - only way we'll get them right is to review and update where required!

Cool Brendan I'll send an email regarding need for a separate diagram for the TL-1TH has a different 3 way switch.
Got final touches to the build done, bit more setup but sounding pretty good with little setup.
As usual I'll post a better photo soon
