My new ES
This kit will remain stock with a bone nut being the exception.
The name of this beauty is FBG.
Following in the shape of the body and one of my favourite queen songs, I dub the
FAT BOTTOM GIRL.
I was going to call it Linda but my better half didnt quite see the funny side of that.

Tim

Ok update time have done some sanding, about 3hrs todate.
The bog fairys are back with a small patch of bog on a bottom side.
The machine heads aren't my favourite and are a very tight fit on the head so am
Thinking of replacing them. Will post pics in time as I have jsut come out of surgery

Brendan
24-10-2013, 11:06 AM
Hope you mean figuratively Tim - otherwise - hope things are OK & you'll be on the mend soon - back to the bass any colours in mind? Being FBG - Concho Pink / Faded Fiesta perhaps?

Tim
24-10-2013, 11:46 AM
All good just day surgery will be laid up for a bit, so might get some work done on both kits
Yer might pass on the cocho and fiesta.
Going to attempt a burst
BMW
CARMINE
GOLDEN ROD
So could be fun times ahead

Gavin1393
24-10-2013, 12:26 PM
Just watch that BMW.....it can be a bit tricky to apply......you really have to get as much colour into the wood at first application and you simply have to keep the cloth/rag moving at all times, the moment you stop it will over colour the wood at that point!

Brendan
24-10-2013, 01:09 PM
Bit of a German theme there? Black, Red, Yellow or is that Belgian? Either way - suppliers of nice beer... Good choice - keen to see how it goes!

Tim

Had plenty of experience with the BMW on my yb4.
Hopefully I will do it justice

Tim

Ok I am now back home so in between rest stops I can do some more on FBG
Had a parcel rock up today with some of my goodies.
FBGs headstock veneer was part of the parcel
Still in 2 minds about the machine heads have added some pics to show the issue

I have also been sanding as mentioned
ANd as mentioned the bog fairys have been at it again
On the upside or downside how ever you look at it
T is only small and its on the underside so I should be able to hide it
The top and bottom have been sanded to 240grit with some tweaking on the front still needed
But in short very happy with the kit

Hi Tim, I hope all's well and on you're on the mend.

That's a nasty case of "tuner over-crowding" you have there! ... even trimming of the overhangs from the edges of the h/stock, they look like they'll still be fouling each others opposite member on the key-shaft ... are they the standard PBG kit or an aftermarket purchase?

Is that the h/stock veneer slab I see in the bottom pic? ... pretty hefty looking - 5/6mm? ... Ebony?

Tim
25-10-2013, 11:19 AM
These are the standard PBG tuners ,even looking at the aftermarket I will have the same issues
I am not a fan of the "Elephant ears" to start with .
If I go for anything else I will have to dowel the holes and redrill.
And yes that is a ebony h/stock veneer and its about 5mm.
Needs to be thinned down a bit

Tim
25-10-2013, 11:21 AM
Oh yer and will be a slow mend cant do a lot for 3 to 4 weeks,
but feeling ok if I don't do alot .
good thing I have some kits to build

Tim
18-11-2013, 01:47 AM
:D well after a couple of weeks laid up and now everyone has decided to get thier gardens done before christmas.
So with very littlebuild time not much has been achieved of late.
Early this morning I escaped the design desk and got some wudtone down on the FBG
I have chucked on some little snippets to give u a sneak peak

nice burst Tim, looking forward to this one.
Did you find a solution for the tuners?

The burst is looking sensational, Tim! Keep us posted as and when you can!

Did you find a solution for the tuners?[/quote]
@ Stan yes the tuner issues I have got the stock tuners from MIDNIGHT floating around so am looking at dowelling holes and redrilling to suit them.
One hand it is a shame but on the other as mentioned I am not a fan of the Elephant ear style tuners so they may have been given the heave-ho anyways

Tim

Well this has been a long time in the making.
First work took over then the burst turned sour :(
Then I lost total interest in the poor thing:(
Tried to fix the burst but to no avail.
More lack of interest:( the bass was feeling no love.
Finally decided that put it all down to a learn experience and finish her.
Have left it all stock.
Still got a bit more to do to button her up.
Have got all the wiring done and some sounds .
She don't look pretty but she got a sweet sound

I don't know Tim. I think I like how it looks. I know the burst hasn't turned out how you wanted. But it has it's own kind of class, sort of like one of those "zoot suit" SGs

Hey Tim, I reckon that looks really cool. Yeah, there's some issues with the burst transition, but it still works. I know a few Aboriginal musicians who would really dig this.
