Grounding a TL-1TB

Hi all,

I'll try to keep this short and sweet. What is the best way to ground the TL-1TB? I have noticed there isn't anywhere to attach the ground from the volume pot to any area. Any ideas?

I referenced the wiring diagram for the TL1 but was unsuccessful, im yet to wire my guitar up, however, i am seeking your opinions for best practices.

I haven't built a TL-1TB but my mate has. Pretty sure once you have drilled and located the Bigsby tremelo you will have to drill a hole (if there already isn't) and solder the earth wire to the bottom of the tremelo face

Thanks wokkaboy. I will take a gander at the possibility of drilling a hole to occupy the ground wire. Sounds tricky 8)

actually Packets I just had a look at the photos of the TL-1TB body, there should be a hole drilled between the control cavity and bridge post hole. when you knock in the bridge post closest the control cavity have the earth wire making contact with the bridge post and it should wedge in, make sure there is plenty of bare wire touching the bridge post

Aah I got you! This sounds more feasible! I'm about to head back, so I will post an update later with pictures to support the post and your idea!

I think this is what you're looking for... if you check the bridge post hole closest to the control cavity there should be a hole through to the cavity for the bridge ground. As Wokka said, just strip the end of the wire (and maybe tin it with some solder) so that it makes good contact with the bridge post bushing when it is hammered in.

For the wiring, essentially you want to use the layout of the 2 Humbucker wiring diagram (http://pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/PBG-2Hum2Pot%20v2.pdf) but with the lever switch from the 2 Single Coil wiring diagram (http://pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/PBG-TL-1.pdf), if that makes sense.

thanks for the incredible instruction and know how.. i was having issues with tining the bridge post, it kept rejecting the solder. the bridge post was literally smoldering but would not allow the solder Perhaps i need to purchase some flux?

Packets, don't worry about the solder, the bridge posts are a tight fit in the post holes, just make sure you have at least 15mm of bare wire touching the post and knock in the post, the earth wire won't go anywhere

There's no need to solder the ground wire to the bridge post, all that's necessary is for the wire to make good physical contact with the post.

Normally, what you do is strip ~2cm of the wire at the bridge end, give it a good tight twist and tin it with some solder, then position the wire with that bare end poking through the ground wire hole and running down the inside wall of the bridge post hole. Then, when you hammer (lightly tap) the bushing for the bridge post into the post hole in the guitar body it will make a solid physical (and electectrical) contact with the bare end of the ground wire, with no need to actually solder it to the bridge post.

Of course, all this is assuming you haven't already hammered in the bridge post bushing... if you have, then an alternative course of action will be required.

You don't need to solder the wire to the bridge post. It's a very tight fit, and you just need to have the exposed wire touching the post. That's what I did with mine and it has worked fine.
