Next build is another ST-1 kit which I scored in Pitbull's Birthday sale - very happy with that purchase for $75! I've always loved the sort of transparent look of the Vintage Blonde Stratocasters so that's the Wudtone colour I went with.

I'm not really keen on rosewood fretboard Strats so I ordered a separate maple neck only to discover it wasn't matched to this kit body (and a couple of other differences - so rosewood fretboard it is this time around. All good though, nice to have a one of each in my Strat collection.

I've got colour on the body and got it just how I want it with the transparency - about 4 basecoats of 1/3 Blonde/ 1/3 White, with the last coat having all the left over white tipped in. Here are some pics so for (no gloss top coat yet)

Going Vintage Amber on the neck instead of Vintage Yellow this time - Adam and DB kindly got the colour to me just in time - thanks guys! ;)

Nice, I like it Matt, at first I thought I was looking at bare timber, but this is really growing on me

Yeah I must admit I also thought the same thing when the first coat went on - almost no change from bare timber but as the coats built up it got a lot more creamy. The photos probably aren't the best either, the colour is very subtle.

What was the drama with the maple neck, Matt?
You know you can always email me and I will do my best to sort these things out for you mate :)

Hey DB, nah it was no biggie really. I won the ST-1 kit on the birthday sale but as I'm not super keen on the rosewood neck that comes in that kit, I thought I'd buy one of the new maple necks you guys sell on the website now (thinking it would be the same fit as the neck in the ST-1 kit) and just use the maple neck on the kit and save the rosewood one for something else.

However when the (stand alone) maple neck arrived it had a different heel profile and didn't fit the body so I had to use the rosewood one afterall. Nothing at all wrong with either of the necks, it's just that the maple one wasn't matched to this kit's body (if that all makes sense?) I don't have the tools yet to modify the heel to fit otherwise I could have had a crack at it - I'll just save that new maple neck for something else.

Looking good Matt - wonder how Vintage Blonde would go on Ash?

Yeah I reckon it would look fantastic on the ash bodies because of it's translucent properties - unfortunately the ash Strat bodies weren't available when I did mine!

Looks great Matt. I really love the vintage white look and you've totally nailed it. It's such a great colour for a strat.

cheers,
Gav.
