Here is my entry for October GOTM.

The kit is a ES-1G with a few additions.

The colour is a custom mix of Azure Lagoon and Dark Onyx to darken it up. The darker Wudtone seems to bring out an almost metallic look to the Maple cap and It also changes colour depending on the light and the angle you look at it. To add to the depth of the colour the guitar was given a few coats of Axe Wax and buffed to a shine. Couldn't be happier.

Upgrades to the kit are as follows;
- Tonerider P90 pickups in a Humbucker case
- Nickel surrounds
- Switchcraft 3 way switch and jack
- CTS audio taper pots all round
- Black Bee Oil-in-Paper tone caps
- 3 ply pick guard and ES335 pick guard bracket
- Tusq nut
- Shielded "vintage" wiring
- Set of D'Addario Jazz "Light" strings

How does it sound? Smooth as silk...

Here's my one: ST-1 with the maple neck.

My first build, and first electric guitar (I play classical) - and it was a heap of fun.
Couldn't decide on a logo for the headstock, so left it vanilla for now.

I'm impressed by the wudtone, it's marvelous stuff.

Finished in blue lagoon - silver highlights - extra gloss with ageing.

Weirdly, it was a nice shade of blue until I started applying the top coat. Each coat of the extra gloss made it greener and greener until it ended up a 'green lagoon'. No complaints though, it lookes super.

Now to figger out how to upload the pics...

Hey fullas awesome guitars in this months comp,

This is my entry for the oct comp, its an ST-1 with my own custom Maori designs on it, i have incorporated the mangopare (hammer head shark) and a manaia head,
The mangopare (hammerhead shark) is a symbol of strength & courage, tenacity of life, determination, vigor and wealth.
The manaia acts as a messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds, It is the holder of great spiritual energy and is a guardian against evil and a protector over land, sea, and sky.

The color i have used is walnut with a true oil finish, with the designs cut out to show the natural look of the bass wood body with the outer part of the design carved to show a 2 tone look.
The top part of the headstock and the back of the neck is also stained walnut, with paua on the 3 pick ups and a double koru (spiral) bone carving inlayed into the headstock.

Hi Roger,
The ageing tint is what made the blue turn green..
Now that I have seen what happens I can advise future customers not to use ageing top coat with Azure Lagoon...
Still, it is a beautifully finished and built guitar.

Photos taken with iDevices (iPad etc.) store the images in the orientation of the device when they were taken and then set the 'Orientation Tag' in the images' EXIF data to say how they should be displayed. For example, if you hold an iPad inverted when you take a photo, that's how the image is stored and its Orientation Tag is essentially set to say it is inverted. Now, when that image is viewed on a device that utilises the Orientation Tag, like iDevices, it inverts the image so it appears the 'right way up' (and as far as you know, it is the right way up).

Other platforms/browsers may not use the Orientation Tag when displaying an image, so it displays in the orientation is was taken, ie. upside down. This is often particularly evident in thumbnails in some browsers, but when you click on the image to expand it the Orientation Tag is usually then used and the image displays correctly.

There are basically two ways to avoid this issue:
1) Always hold your iDevice in its default upright orientation when taking a photo and orientate your target object appropriately, that way no rotation needs to be done.
2) Take the photos holding your device any way you want, but then always run the photos through some image processing/editing software to rotate and store them in the orientation you want, so that all platforms/browsers will see them the same way.

Jase ... hey that's my guitar, dude!!! :D

I swear when I saw your pics I was looking at the SG that I'm just in the final stages of completely!!! until I saw the bolt-on neck ... other than that they literally could be sisters (I guess they are in a way!) even the colour although mine's in Flamenco there's almost no discernible difference ... having said that-

LOVELY JOB mate! ... that's as sweet as they come! :D ... there's a lot of stiff competition this month but you've got to be one of the front runners in my books!

And the winner is...

Yes, I know, we say it every month, but this one was really tight. Out of the seven entries, four guitars scored top marks from 5 different judges. That is, only two judges agreed on which guitar should get top marks.

So, with special thanks to Andy and Dan, our two Special Guest Judges, here are the results for Pit Bull Guitars October Guitar of the Month...

In 3rd Place:

Jase's SG-1
http://pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Jase-sg-1-1.jpg

"HOT, HOT, HOT! This one really does for me, classic axe finished superbly with in ya face Carmine Gypsy...
Very well put together and expertly finished."

"This axe looks excellent Jase, I like it. Great colour choice for an SG...what else really! The quality of finish looks excellent. What an uncle, your nephew must be wrapped. Really well done."

In 2nd Place:

Highace10's ES-1G
http://pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Highgace10-ES-1G.jpg

"Real quality build Alex, the ES-1G is a difficult undertaking but you have nailed it. Finished to a very high standard and oozing total class, this really is a top build."

"Great attention to detail, as good or even better than the factory's could produce."

"Very nice.... I realy like the subtlness of this finish, it has the look of a guitar that has seen decades of gigs.

"Great touch with the upgrades too, I bet she sounds like a true classic."

And, in 1st Place...

Marcus's Carved ST-1.

http://pitbullguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Marcus-ST-1.jpg

"Once again, beautiful carving but the thing that really took my eye was the Paua shell pup covers.
This is a really nice touch."

"Amazing craftsmanship at work here, it seems your only limit Marcus, is your imagination."

"I really like this one Marcus, the amount of work you have put into this is astonishing. Built to such a high standard, it looks spotless and definitely has that wow factor. Your excellent colour choice beautifully shows off the quality of the carving. Couldn't help but be drawn to this if it was hanging in a shop. Truly wonderful work."

"To be honest, carved wood is not my thing at all, but I can't help but be in awe of the skill required to pull this off (so successfully). You've got a real talent Marcus and its an honour to have you as part of our humble community. Keep 'em coming mate."

Congratulations Marcus, a well deserved and popular winner.

Special well done to Marcus. Like some others here, carved guitars are not my thing, but that guitar is a piece of art mate. Fabulous.

Well done to all the entries.

It is really hard to put a score to any of them when you have to look at them in detail. The more you look at each one you notice little little details and work that's gone in to them.

The one thing that stood out to me with all of the fine guitars, was how well they all looked put together. I guess that's what you get when it's for the person building it, or some one close.

Marcus, i don't know how long it takes you to carve those through body patterns. I guess it must take a while, well it would for myself if I ever was brave enough to attempt something like that. But for all we know you probably knock it out in an arvo over a six pack.
Congratulations, and it's good to see another ST-1 representing.

Andyport

Congratulations Marcus, Highace, Jase and indeed to all entries. Another wonderful gathering of guitars.
It really is difficult to judge one entry over another when they are all so varied and of such a high standard.
With the amount of work and the detail you put into that ST Marcus, you are a worthy recipient.

As each of us do more builds, learning all the while from our last, our skill levels are constantly on the rise.
We become more adventurous and the build quality is dramatically on the increase...
...as shown each month in the GOTM line-up.
The guitars that ALL you guys on this forum are producing now are incredible. Well done to all.
