Gday All. The plan for this one is to keep it PBG stock at this stage.I mite just swap out the speed knobs for others but thats it. The neck will be left natural with black head-stock face and the body butter-scotch with gold highlites. Ive ordered some aged tint but have none-aged leftover from previous build. Im not to sure there.I will see how bold/deep the butter-scotch comes out. Good to have options. Ive gone for a Maton-ese head-stock.The neck is ready to go and Ive just gave the body a quick rub with 120grit.. Cheers

Cool Jase! I am also considering your exact model/colour combo - that butterscotch mix of DB's looks sweet, and it's the perfect match for the Jnr. Should come out a treat.

cheers,
Gavin.

I really love the P90 pick ups Gavin. Once I saw the example of the butter scotch I was sold. I was very tempted to go with the single but the double being a little diffrent won out. Just. Cheers.

gavinturner
16-09-2013, 11:01 AM
Yeah I personally prefer the double. Looks less like a mini LP wanna-be IMO and becomes something much, much more. Good luck with the build. Once you hit it out of the park I can get on and order mine ;) ;).

cheers,
Gavin.

Some platforms/browsers may show images in different orientations based on the 'Orientation Tag' in the EXIF data embedded in the image, while other platforms ignore it completely. For example, an image may appear the 'right way up' on an iPad (because of the orientation tag) but appear upside down using Firefox on a laptop. It depends on what camera/platform was used to take the image, how that platform stored the image, and what platform/browser/App is then used to view the image.

It's another case of not everyone doing things the same way.

wokkaboy

well explained Scott, the 1st 2 photo thumbnails appear upside down on my browser but are the correct orientation when I click on the image and it enlarges.
Jase this axe should look sweet in butterscotch
Hope you are sanding the body higher grit than 120 ?

jase
18-09-2013, 07:27 PM
I used the 120 as there was a few machine markings. Its about90%finished on the 180grit and is coming up a treat.

I got the 4th and last color coat on and have decided against the gold high-lites. With the planned aged top coat on the body I thought it mite get lost so instead have chosen to put the gold high-lites on the neck. You cant pick it up on the photos but she sparkles and Im really happy with the result. Im planning to get some top coats on both neck/body early in the week. I hope the photos are the correct way??? Cheers!!!

Gday all. I thought that the build was nearing completion until this morning when I thought Id just give it a quik mock up. It was the first since I mocked it up strait out of the box.I couldnt dream of this colour being any better so when I placed all the hardware on,chrome+black,it just didnt look rite. SO ....Im going for all black hardware, which should be here in a few weeks. At least that gives the wudtone good curing time. At the moment the body has 3coats of aged topcoat. The neck has 2 clear coats, gold tints, then another 2 coats of clear. Both are getting another coat on Sunday and maybe 1 more mid-week. Cheers! P.S I hope the photos are the rite way this time. I tried to capture the gold hilites on the neck and the butter-scotch in the daylite and inside.

I was a little nervous as all the holes were drilled for PBG wardware but all parts sliiped srait on. Phew!!Now to find time to finish DC Jnr off, plug in, have fun. Cheers!!

That looks great Jase. The yellow and black make a great contrast, so you'll definitely stand out. And I love the headstock shape, it really suits the guitar. My granddaughter asked me to make her a DC in hot pink, so I can see yet another build coming on.

I'm keen to read about your thoughts on the coloured strings too. I haven't heard of coloured strings before and if the sound isn't compromised it could help set off the look of the guitar like yours have. Who makes them and where did you buy them? And do you know if they make other colours?

The strings are. DR Extra-Life Black Beauties. The local guitar shop stocks them and rainbow strings??? The coating is starting to come off(dust)but the packet mentioned this but it doesnt effect lifespan of 3-4 times longer than normal strings. Ill shall see..

Hey Jase
Just picked myself up one of these through the ebay auctions for an absolute steal.
Was a real spur of the moment thing, but having seen your beautiful creation, I'm quite excited about it.
They look as though they would be a heap of fun to play.
Have absolutely no idea what colour to go with....decisions, decisions!!

Sorry Fretworn...lol
Just lucky I guess.
Was originally interested in the beatle bass, not that I play bass, just like the look of them.
Thought it would be a challenge to do a vintage burst on one. Another day maybe.

Andy you are lucky I was watching the DC junior auction but was in a car and my ebay phone app needed a password to sign in and I couldn't remember the damn password, I was going to bid $75 last few seconds.
Good score Andy $72 plus postage, look forward to see that in the build diaries

Andyport
01-11-2013, 03:12 AM
Thank goodness for passwords hey wokka!!!
Think I will do a full build diary this time, rather than just posting the finished product.
Any colour suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

01-11-2013, 03:35 AM
Nice score Andy! ... I was one of the bidding competitors but in the end having just received my Ash explorer kit I really couldn't allow myself to be that greedy (even though I DID try! :D) ... seeing Jase's DC really did give some inspiration to make up one of these wonderful little axes! ... now it'll have to be the one after the next one!

Colour choices? ... unless you want to do something completely "off the planet" (think disco mirror ball and LEDs or maybe lime-green fur! 8O ), in my opinion there's really only two choices for this particular guitar - either the YELLOW that Jase has done his in (excellent job by the way Jase! a true classic) OR my personal favourite, dark WALNUT brown with similar black hardware to that used by Jase (mmmmm, niiiice!)

WeirdBits
01-11-2013, 03:46 AM
For something a little different... Carmine Gypsy with black hardware.

wokkaboy
01-11-2013, 03:50 AM
yes I agree with Weirdbits, carmine gypsy or even cherry flamenco and black hardware would look unreal
Andy how about take a photo of the body after its sanded and ask the forum for colour ideas. If its got any nice figure in the grain you may want to go a lighter colour but these are only basswood (I think)

jase
01-11-2013, 09:23 AM
Im with WeirdBits. Carmine Gypsy was my original choice before going with the Butter-scotch for something different. Good luck.

hi Jase,

i have a quick question about the butterscotch. How much, if any, of the white base did you mix in?
just trying to gauge what proportions to go with.

cheers,
Gavin.

jase
10-11-2013, 05:46 AM
Thats strait butter-scotch. NO white base. An update on the strings. They have starting sheding the coating where the pick strikes them but they still sound great but I should notice more as they are now getting older. Cheers!

Beautifully understated and superbly finished.
