G'day everyone! My name is dean, and I'm from Melbourne.

Been playing guitar for about 6 years now.
A few weeks ago I was speaking with a kid who decided to build his own guitar kit, and I thought what a great idea! Can't believe I hadn't thought of doing that myself...

A few hours later (and after going through quite a few guitar kit websites) I found the pit bull team, spent a bit of time looking through the kits and finally went for the Lp-1m
I really like the community here and on Facebook, sounds like Adam and the boys take real care in heir customers!

Anyway, in short, ill try my best to update this log book for all to see, plus I don't have any experience what so ever In making one of these so any help available will be great!

Here's a bit of a mock up with the parts, everything seems to fit pretty good :-)

Hey Dean,
welcome to the forum, was the kid's name you spoke to about building a kit called Callum ? he have a young builder username Keloooe who is SE of Melbourne. On the forums he's called the Pest !
Good choice of guitar to build, wiring is a bit difficult but with the correct diagram you should be ok.
Run by us what finish you plan using !

Hi Deano,
sure the wiring will be a piece of cake for a sparky !

Check out the wudtone colours, just about any colour would look great on a LP-1M

Haha hope so!
I was looking at all the different colours last night, was very hard choosing, l like most of them
Ended up picking sunburst - dark onyx and azure lagoon! Bring on the challenge

DO/AL sunburst should look sweet, can't remember anyone doing that sunburst combo but think that will look sweet on the LP-1M.
As you have probably read start with plenty of sanding, you will regret seeing machine marks/scratches on the body once wudtone has been applied

Yeah definitely will
What's the best thing to do for the plastic binding? At the moment I'm just trying not to sand it, but it does have some scratches in some sections

the binding try and keep the sandpaper off and use super fine 0000 grade steel wool. Rub back the binding between each coat will make it easier to clean up at the end. If your keen you can even give the binding a steel wool before you start the first wudtone coat will ensure its super smooth

Hey, I'm even closer than that! I just said Ringwood area. You and me share a postcode. Although I'm not in Heathmont. :)

I see. Ringwood East? I'm two streets up the hill from the Heathmont shops on Canterbury road. Right round the corner seems like a pretty good estimate!

Yeah, I'm a bit of a pest, but I take it in my stride!
Here's the link to my LP build page: http://pitbullguitars.com/?page_id=42&mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=126 please note that my LP has a basswood body, not mahogany, and it's been 6 months because I had a few problems during the build, but they are solved now!

Started the 1st coat of the top. Getting the sunburst is quite a challenge and hopefully it gets better with more coats, so far so good though!

Coming along very nicely.
A trick I use is to encourage the blending is to gently rub the transition area with super fine steel wool.
Takes some practice but when you nail it you will get an amazing result.
