Strange question I reckon, but . . .

Anyone tried to dye/stain the position dots on a PB neck?
I assume they are mother of pearl & not placcy.
I want to dye them RED in situ (masked off naturally)
So far I've tried glass paint and sharpie pens with imperfect results.

P.S. Don't ask me the why's of this - all will be revealed in time ;)

Are you talking about the neck or the fretboard?

Hi Gavin

The fretboard in this instance.

Thanks

Thanks Gavin, but the problem as I see it is that once you fit new inserts, they need sanding back flush. My research says that on a radiused fretboard, the only way to do this without getting "flat spots" or damaging the frets is to de-fret the board, sand back & re-fret.
This is all beyond my abilities at this point, so I am looking for a "way around" hence dyeing them in situ.

The dots are plastic, if that helps...
You can replace the dots without all the flim flam you may have read on the interwebs, it just takes time and patience and a flat jewellers file, wet and dry and a good eye.
I have done it heaps of times and never screwed up a neck ! :)

Thanks for the info DB
I will go the way you suggest maybe using the jade dots Gavin found for me.
This solves a mini dilemma on an upcoming project.
