View Full Version : An exceptionally vain request.

Hi all,

I have two guitars completed, both of which I am very proud of. However I can only enter one in the GOTM Contest.

I therefore humbly beseech the advice of the community to tell me which one I should submit for judgement. Consider it a straw poll... The links to both are supplied below:

Thanks, folks!

That's a toughie, they both are awesome. If I had to choose I'd say the seven string, even though the pbg2 looks amazing, the seven string just looks the best to me.

Anyone who knows the wisdom of Inigo Montoya is allowed a vain request or two.

They have both turned out great... but, even though it looks good, the shape of the PBG-2 still messes with my head. The IB-7 is definately the one that I'd reach for first to play, so it gets my vote.

PBG 2 for me. Like them both - though with a few strings on, the pup plastics off, I think the PBG 2 is the one.

Well done Bass Guy, I think they both look great.

But I think the richer colour of the PB just gets it over the line for me. And being an old bass player myself I can just about manage 5 strings, 7 would just do my head in.

Cheers

Both awesome, depends on whether the judge is a bass player or not...seven strings may scare him off if so. Ignoring that comment, i really like the PBG2....

PBG2. I'll forgive it having a floating Floyd-style tremelo. Just this once.

PBG2. I like them both, but if they were sitting in front of me the PBG would be the one I would reach for first.

I think there might be room for an "Emergency Acceptors" list like they do in horse racing? When there are insufficient numbers to contest the race emergency acceptors get drafted in!

Yes, Gav's right, if we only get 6 entries, I think it will be fine if some people want to enter two guitars. However, if we get more than 8, then I would encourage people to consider entering just the one. SO, pick one to enter and, if we are short, chuck the other one into the mix.

Also, you might want to wait to hear who the judge is. For instance, this month we're hoping for a big name from mid 90's US Rock/Metal, so you might want to tailor your entry to suit that style.

Hmmm... That bodes well for the 7string...

And I think I can guess the judge too...

Really Bass Guy, I'd be impressed if you guess correctly. Email me your guess..

One vote here for the IB-7! ;)

Mainly because it's right up my alley and I also own an Ibanez RG 7 string, but the finish is looking great in the build thread too.

It's very close to call, four for the IB-7 and five for the PGB-2....

Coin toss in order, methinks...

Hi Bass Guy,
since I sat on the fence before I knew the judge may be a 90's US rock/metal guitarist I would favour the IB7, so that evens up the votes 5 each if you counted my vote as a no vote.
So up to you, sure he would still dig the PBG2, so a coin toss could be in order

how do both these axes play, they are both floating trems ? do they keep tune ?

Righto, I didn't toss a coin but have plumped for the IB-7 purely on the basis that I think it's the first one of its type to be completed. Plus the woodgrain is lovely on it.

As far as playability goes, they're VERY low action (befitting the genre) and the hardware on the trems are a little stiff. However these are not insurmountable issues. The neck on the IB-7 is noticeably wider than the PBG-2, and it does take some adjustment.

Sonically, WOW!! Djent Central! Djentral!!

Man, that's a tough call. I opened two windows so it could keep bouncing between one and the other. In the end I found I was looking at the PBG2 more, so that's my call. They're both excellent!
