Enter your finished guitar here to be judged for July's Pit Bull Guitars Guitar of the Month.

A few rules:

One guitar per member per month.
It must be a Pit Bull Guitars kit (mods and upgrades are ok)
We need 4 photos: full guitar shot from the front, close up of the body finish, shot of the back of the guitar and close up of the headstock.
Post your photos in this thread or email them to adam@pitbullguitars.com.
Competition for July closes 30 June 2013.

Special Guest Judge to be announced later this month.

Well i thought i should kick things off with my entry for July GOTM.

Its an LP-1 kit with some minor modifications, such as Orange Drop tone caps and a set of different knobs and pickup surrounds. Im waiting for the logo to be made up from a friend at work so that will be added as soon as i can pick it up.

The kit is finished in Dark Tease with non aging, gloss clear. There are also a couple of rounds of Axe Wax to help bring out the shine. It adds to the finish nicely.

Note: Tuners have been swapped around and switch surround left off on purpose :-)

Best of all, it plays very nicely. Couldnt be happier.

Enjoy..

Hi HighAce, you might want to revisit your tuners, you have the right hand side ones on the left hand side and the left hand side ones on the right hand side....

Impressive start to the July GOTM highace. This is a really sophisticated looking guitar... just what our judges seem to like.

Nice work Highace, yes as Gav says you will have to reverse the tuners. Also noticed you left of the rhythm/treble plate on the pickup switch. The finish is very well done, a very worthy contender for July GOTM !

You don't want to leave off a silly thing like that! Could cost you GOTM! Plus a few visits with the shrink to get over the loss!

yes good advice Gav, Highace did remember the truss rod cover but the judge may not like the treble/rhythm plate missing !

Personally - leave it off - it's his guitar and Highace knows which way is up. Maybe though - change the switch top to black or chrome? That's the only cream thing on the guitar, but here I'm looking for something small to pick on...

highace10
11-06-2013, 05:39 AM
That was my bad with the tuners, they since have been swapped around. As far as the switch surround is concerned i left it off, to my eye it looks too much. The switch top has also been swapped around with a black one but i thought it matched the binding better.

In the end, whatever floats your boat i guess.

Switch plate off and black selector knob for me. For what it's worth.

Brendan
11-06-2013, 07:34 AM
So long as you're happy that's the main thing - plus - you've seen it in the flesh. Either way its a beautiful guitar and you should be happy.

highace10
11-06-2013, 09:06 AM
Cheers Brendan.. The colour of the knob is quite pronounced in the pics but in reality it matches the binding quite well. In the end it can be changed if I don't like the look of it later.

Looks aside, it sounds great. I'll be showing my tutor Wednesday night then I can see what it capable of. Don't have the skill just yet.

Those top hat knobs, man. Seriously classy touch there. Suits the colour perfectly. Lovely guitar and a great first entry. The quality level for this month has been well and truly set.

Hello All

New here and to the forum...
Would like to submit the SV-1 shown, put together very slowly trying to get everything right.
I have tried to make this a copy of a Jem and am still learning.
I finished it off in a three layer pearl and clear from PPG and also cleared the back of the neck as well. The headstock is hand painted and airbrushed to imitate the Jem 7v.
Slowly learning hopefully, the tricks of the trade.

Shove something on the headstock that looks like a logo, take the picture, enter the guitar, win the compo and then stick the logo you really wanted on the guitar. ;)

I guess I can let you guys know who the judge is for the July comp. Mark Deutrom, formerly with The Melvins, is our first International judge.

Mark currently resides in Texas and has had a stellar career as a musician, composer, songwriter and producer. In fact, he might be the first Pit Bull Guitars GOTM Judge with a Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Deutrom.

Mark loves our site and our products and he's even ordered an FB-1 kit to make as his "Travelling" Guitar.

I will send Mark the entries on July 1, when entries close.

Thanks Robert.

Yes, the neck is finished in Tru-Oil as well. A mate of mine has a Music Man guitar and they use TO on their necks. I was going for the same finish. The secret with the neck is to only use 4 or 5 coats of TO and then to lightly rub down the gloss with steel wool until you get a beautiful smooth satin finish. The final finish is very slick and just gorgeous to play.

Cheers

Congratulations Highace10 (Alexander). Mark Deutrom chose your LP-1 in Dark Tease as this month's Guitar of the Month.

Here's Mark's comments on the top three:

"I'm picking Alex's LP as my favorite.
This is a really unique color and nicely finished.
The grain stands out with a perfect amount of presence.
If Les Paul Studios had this quality of finish when
they came out, I would have bought one.
This guitar looks unfussy and has a classic, but unique look.

My second choice was Wokka's PBH-4. The finish on this
is beautiful and reminds me of a vintage classical guitar.
Looks like some time was spent to get the finish as nice as this.

Eliot's IB-7 is my third choice. The reddish stain in combination with
the black hardware is a cool combination that you don't see often.
The satin finish is also a good choice to set off the black accents.

Congratulations to all the participants on what was obviously a
lot of work, and a labor of love. If mine looks half as good, I'll be happy."

Thanks everyone for another great comp! Ok... now for August!
