nice Gav did you just receive this from Mr Postman ?

what colours you got in mind ?
thats heaps better spalted top than the one I built, and mine had glue spots on the cap ! beware !

Ooh. I was tossing up doing one of those next. Either that, or a PBG-1. Or an EX-1. Or an RC-1. Or an ESP-1

Dammit.

But yours is nice!

you can solve that problem phloggy by ordering one of each !

Yep! Just arrived!

Thinking Mahogany for the back and sides, but there isn't any binding to separate the top which I was contemplating Goldenrod or Carmine Gypsy....might just have to do the whole thing in Cherry Flamenco?

nice, thats bizaar, I did mine back sides in mahogany, and did a carmine/golden rod burst on top !

cherry all over would look great. You will see the headstock is quite a bit longer and narrower than the standard PRS headstock, but its got heaps of height to play with designs

I haven't pulled the neck out yet to have a look at the headstock....I'm a little nervous about what I might discover.....after having given special instructions on my order form!

Yeah! I have to do it justice! Not sure what though!

I'd think something natural to highlight and accentuate the wood - that spalty top is to die for...

phloggy
08-06-2013, 11:01 PM
I'd do it in a "natural" colour. Something like Amber, Mahogany, Honey or even Dark Tease.

what about a thin coat of dark tease then sand it back to enhance the grain then honey to make it pop?

You forget that this thread is to prove that Wudtone is a superior finish....how do I answer the cynics if I haven't used tru-oil on one of the guitars.....what am I saying? Why would I ruin a perfectly decent guitar??? I'll be back in 20 mins, can I take a book.....

Brendan

Musta missed something - what's the issue with Tru Oil? Was honestly wondering if Tru Oil and Wudtone could be used on the same guitar (i.e., BMW to get the colour, Tru Oil to get the shine). I understand that it's designed for guns and not guitars as opposed to Wudtone (the opposite), however it's not a plastic...

Ok, decided on Cherry Flamenco......

Have completed the sanding and done a quick pre build!

Front and back after the first coat. No sign of any glue spots although there were some nasty ones! thanks to the fact that I have a magic glue remover now!

It should! It's my Rickenbacker neck! I was feeling too lazy to shape the PRS for the picture, and since the necks are identical I swopped them over!

I've got a PRS entoute (apparently after being delivered to the suburb next door last Friday the Australia Post has decided it needs to be in Canberra before they bring it to me). There's a non-zero chance I may be stealing that headstock.

Tried an experiment.

Used deep colour Flamenco Cherry, then applied two coats of the first base coats and have subsequently applied three coats of Golden Rod.
his is the result....simply stunning colour!

I have been ridiculously slack in finishing this one. Got A into G yesterday and after a serious stint of 5 fret jobs and fretboard treatments this neck is finally finished. I have some really special truss rod covers on order. 100 of them!

That colour is awesome Gavin...never thought of the option to apply one colour directly over another.

Look forward to seeing this one finished.

Cheers

Since we had a public holiday in WA today, and since I had picked up some really nice Humbucker Sized P90's from Realtone recently, I decided to get into the mancave and make an effort to get this finished....it has been 2 years! Gulp!

So got going with the headstck, some Grover Locking Tuners and my Chrome logo!

oUtput jack and plate...which was actually for a tele I am still to build but it looked great on the PRS so there it stays.

Realtone 'Agent 90' P90 pickups. These are humbucker sized so they fit perfectly in the humbucker cavities.

The PRS has a string through configuration (designed by the factory) which is a nice touch.
