View Full Version : Els IB-7; the Deadly Sinner.

Now the Nate Bass is done, dusted and demoed (see the Pit Bull Guitars facebook page for clips of my "playing") it is time to get cracking on the other three projects sitting forlornly on my living room floor. Firstly the djent-machine IB-7.

After initial pre-fit the only problem I can see is that the pickup cavities are just a smidge too tight. Rather than bend the lugs on the pickups, I have opted to open the cavities out a bit for an easier fit.

Let's see how we go.

What colour are you proposing Eliot for the IB7?

Brendan
22-05-2013, 01:15 PM
Nice job! Either you've lucked out and found a couple of friends who'll support your guitar making efforts, or you're a top bloke who looks after his mates (or both)! - Either way, your friends are winning out - you've put together some nice stuff and obviously take it seriously.

@wokka- I'm thinking Hot Auburn with matching headstock. Not brave enough to attempt a burst yet! :D

@Brendan- ah, but this one is for me! I do however have a lefty Explorer in the queue which is for a friend's son's 21st... So I hope I get some nice guy points back on that... ;)

Cool hot Auburn will look good Eliot. Haven't seen a IB7 built on the forum yet. The pickups look wider to accommodate 7 strings so maybe the pup routes weren't wide enough. Good work on the JB videos you are a talented bass player

Hey Elliot, if you look at my thread and see the burst pics that are going up today, I can post the instructions on how I did the burst??? It's fairly simple, remember that I am doing a burst for my first Wudtone project, you could give it a go, have faith in yourself mate!

Hot Auburn on the Mahogany... Nice choice.
It will come up as a very deep red- brown.... I like it :)

Bass Guy
23-05-2013, 10:37 PM
Is the IB-7 mahogany? For the PBG2 I was thinking Carmine Gypsy....

And while you're there DB, any word on the Amaranthine? :D :D

dingobass
24-05-2013, 12:24 AM
My bad, got the IB mixed up with the PBG....... Anyhoo, the Hot Auburn will look amazing on the IB......

Aramanthine is at least two weeks away, so plenty of time for, you guessed it, sanding...YAY!

I'll be watching this one with great interest as I wait for my own IB to arrive. Only 6 strings for me. I have enough trouble making the right noise with that without adding another layer of complexity to the situation. :)

Sanded to 240 grit. Nothing to do now but wait until payday and order the Hot Auburn...

looking good Bass Guy, so does this model just have the pickup toggle switch and a volume control - no tone ?

That's not a long strip of glue on the front is it or is it the grain not taking the hot auburn on the front left side ?

Bass Guy
31-05-2013, 03:12 AM
Yep, just toggle and volume. Should be a breeze to wire up.

Believe it or else, that's the grain! It looks great in the flesh, but I did do a few double takes when it came up like this...

31-05-2013, 03:17 AM
yer ok, sure, you must be happy with the result. The neck looks a bit wider to accomodate the 7 strings, should look orsome complete
What suburb do you live in Bass Guy ? Would you be able to spare me an hour to show me slap bass techniques when my PBH is complete ?

Bass Guy
31-05-2013, 03:19 AM
I'm in Lesmurdie, but I can travel. Happy to show you what (little) I know. Also happy to get my hands on your bass! :D

sounds great Bass Guy, I'm happy to come see you, I'm in Willetton. My bass is in cherry flamenco starting to darken from the carmine colour. Goes well with the red tortise shell scratch plate. As soon as I bolt together the 3rd strat tonight/tomorrow I'll be focusing on the PBH, so we'll hook up a time/day next week or 2 !
What I saw on your JB video you are a very talented bass player. I haven't played much bass but am keen to learn some slap and other techniques like chords etc

One suggestion though, it would be a good idea to colour the bridge rout out as you wont want white timber showing through! :)

Bass Guy

Ah, I've got that planned.... I will colour it with the base coat. :D

looking sweet bass guy, I keep forgetting how good hot auburn is !
assume you will go for 2 or 3 base coats total before highlights ?

Bass Guy
07-06-2013, 08:05 AM
I am going highlight-free on this one, wokka. Not sure it needs highlights. But yes, multiple coats are in order, with sanding in between.
