Hi all, purchased the ES-1G kit same time as the FV kit, picture shows how it looked bare from the kit, got 1st base coat of dark amber (surrounds) and mahogany (centre) on the top, the flame maple top feels alive after just one coat. Being such a big bodied guitar really have to make the wudtone last as I'll probably only get 2 base coats of mahogany on. The colours are almost identical, but hopefully after 2nd coat on top the sunburst affect will be more obvious. I had a mad panic Saturday night not knowing how to install pots/input jack and switch with the body having a closed control area but found out they have to be installed through the F hole, thats going to be a challenge.
More updates to come soon

cheers Wokka

Oh wow! It's so pretty! I'd be tempted to leave it like that, nice and subtle.

yes Pablo I will give the top one more coat of dark amber and mahogany and try and blend the sunburst line more. Need to get the finish more consistent too, some parts of the top the wudtone doesn't soak in as well as others

That could be the same polished wood issue Gavin had with his. He had to rough up the surface with a wire brush to allow the surface to absorb the Wudtone from memory...

Hi Stui,
yes I read Gavin's thread and he did use a wire brush, might give it a go

Hi all,
sanded top edges a safe amount so I didn't sand through the veneer, but tried to apply 2nd coat of dark amber heavier on edges, a light sand and 3rd coat will concentrate on sunbursting more next coat. Starting to come together now, stay tuned for next coat should be looking more complete

Yes Callum I want to concentrate on the edges still has parts where wudtone isn't soaking in, thats the priority before I get the sunbursting done. Should get another coat on the top tonight

Here's the ES with 3rd coat, flame maple top starting to jump out but still not happy with edges still not taking in the wudtone. The back doesn't have any glue problems mahogany soaking in well 2nd coat on back and sides

Judging from his funky designs, I don't think he's finished therapy just yet.
