This is one of the very first Pit Bull Guitars kits that we saw finished. Now that I've had a couple of opportunities to play it, I really need to give a shout to DingoBass, who put it together. This video probably doesn't do it justice, but it really is such a lovely guitar to play. And, choosing to go with a subtle wax finish over the basswood was a genius move, which really paid off (imho). Nice work DingoBass.

You could take someone's eye out with that headstock... :D

How stock (pickups etc) is it? Is this what your punter can expect for his hard earned dollar?

Double post, sorry. And I have no idea how it happened... :o

From memory I think this was mostly stock, except for the pearloid pick guard and tone and volume knobs. Is that right DB?

Stock Pups, but I replaced the pots with CTS, Green caps for Sprague Orange Drops and 5 way switch with a CRL brand....
I also used vintage push back and shielded wires, and a Switchcraft jack.

I hear what Dmac is saying, we shouldn't be falsely projecting what a stock ST-1 is going to sound like. I'll put a note on the ST-1 description page listing the upgrades.

So that's a "yes"? ;)

I'm looking at building a TL-1L kit (my first), with a "natural" finish.

Wax seems to have the edge over oil for basswood. For example, this basswood carving finished with Howard's Feed 'n Wax looks great - a plausible Telecaster "yellow":

Waxing the maple neck and fingerboard should also look good:

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

DB used the wax finish before he discovered Wudtone, now he only uses Wudtone....it has some great natural finishes.
